      As a fitting climax to the Luigi Nono: Fragments of Venice festival\, Southbank Centre presents the UK premiere of Luigi Nono's final masterpiece\, Prometeo.
      
      Prometeo was premiered at the 1984 Venice Biennale\, where its startling originality created a sensation. Multiple orchestras\, conductors\, narrators and groups of instrumental and vocal soloists are placed around the concert hall whilst a live electronic studio at the heart of the performing space distributes the music as islands of sound in real time. The libretto\, drawing on texts from ancient Greece and modern Europe\, is the work of Italian philosopher (and current Mayor of Venice) Massimo Cacciari and forms a meditation on the Promethean myth of Creation. The sound production is directed by Andre Richard\, who collaborated with Nono and Cacciari at the original performances\, and who is the undoubted world expert on this remarkable piece.
      
      Please note: Musicians perform from various positions within the Hall\, creating a dedicated surround sound area. Reduced price tickets are located outside this area\, and therefore have no surround sound benefits. Please phone 0871 663 2500 to book these reduced price tickets.
