“And I know what you’re thinking: you’re thinking it must be pretty easy to kill people who are simply clinging on to life. But the people clinging on to life are the most dangerous people of all.”
Clair wants to be kissed - but not now - and certainly not by her husband. Chris wants to celebrate
his new job by driving into the oncoming traffic. Jenny arrives to complain about the screaming children - but the garden's empty\, and the key to the playroom's disappeared. Just what strange game is being played here? Three characters fight to make sense of a surreal and collapsing world in this darkly comic mystery.

At 11 PM\, John!John! & the Wagonistas present "The Donner Party\," a 30-minute hybrid stage show-meets-DJ dance set\, re-enacting the plight of the ill-fated California pioneers who resorted to cannibalism to survive when they became trapped in the mountains during the winter of 1846/47. It's a grim history lesson ... that you can dance to! In the upstairs room\, the Brass Tax DJs -- who've long held down First Fridays at Amnesia -- take over with a dirty combination of breaks\, electro\, d'n'b\, and hip-hop. DJ Nisus from Blasthaus and The Projects joins in.
Launched in 2003 in San Francisco by DJs Adrian & Mysterious D\, Bootie was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup -- and is now the biggest mashup event in the world\, with regular parties in eight cities on three continents. Mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre\, era\, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome\, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation -- with free mashup CDs given away like candy!

SUMMARY:Why Not Theatre presents I'm So Close...
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/5612025/ ] We are living in a world where we are more connected than we have ever been. SUMMARY:Ebondy & Ivory: Gesneriads in Perfect Harmony
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/5327174/ ] The Toronto Gesneriad Society celebrates their 33rd anniversary with Ebony and Ivory: Gesneriads in Perfect Harmony\, their annual judged gesneriad flower show\, at Sherway Gardens (Hwy 427 and the QEW) on Saturday\, March 27 from 11:00am to 6:00pm\, and Sunday\, March 28 from 11:00am to 6:00pm in Sherway Square. Visit www.sherwaygardens.ca or www.torontogesneriadsociety.org or call 416-621-1070 for more information.
“The annual judged show of the Toronto Gesneriad Society\, Ebony and Ivory: Gesneriads in Perfect Harmony provides a great opportunity for people to see some rare and exotic gesneriads that are seldom seen in florist shops or garden centres\, and only available from other growers and gesneriad societies\,” states Beverley Williams\, Entries Chairman\, Toronto Gesneriad Society.
Toronto Gesneriad Society members will be at Sherway Gardens to answer questions about growing gesneriads. Plants that have been propagated and grown by members of the Toronto Gesneriad Society will also be on sale.
The annual Toronto Gesneriad Show at Sherway Gardens\, is the largest judged gesneriad show in Canada and the second largest in the world (second only to the International Show of The Gesneriad Society). Plants and other exhibits are entered by the society's members from across Canada and the U.S. The show's reputation for the variety and quality of its exhibits regularly attracts visitors from across Canada\, the U.S.\, and overseas.
Ebony and Ivory: Gesneriads in Perfect Harmony features four divisions:
 •
The Horticultural Division features individual plants in flower\, or grown for foliage.
 •
The Artistic Division showcases arrangements of cut plant materials\, growing plants\, terrariums\, and other artistic plantings.
 •
The Art Division features art\, crafts\, and photography featuring Gesneriads.
 •
The Educational Division includes information about Gesneriads.
Growers select their show entries based on what they have been growing this year and what is blooming at showtime.
 GESNERIADS EXPLAINED:
The Gesneriad family of plants – pronounced either "jez-NARE-ee ad" or "guess-NARE-ee-ad" is named for Swiss botanist Konrad Gesner. Native to the tropics and sub-tropics\, these are "miracle houseplants" with many that thrive in home growing conditions. While the name "gesneriad" may not be familiar\, many of the most popular houseplants are in fact gesneriads. There is a wide variety of plant sizes\, shapes\, flowers and colours.
Gesneriads provide blooming plants throughout the year and vary in size from that of the miniature Sinningia pusilla\, the blossom of which is seldom larger than a shirt button\, to that of the trailing Columnea\, which if left to grow unchecked\, could reach a length of 5 meters. Most of them are of a manageable size and are known to the home grower as African Violet (Saintpaulia)\, Florist Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa)\, Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus)\, Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus)\, Cape Primrose (Streptocarpus) and Flame Violet (Episcia).
 GROWING GESNERIADS:
“The first step in growing gesneriads is to determine if the plant will be grown as a hanging basket\, a potted plant\, a terrarium or dish garden and then select a gesneriad which is suited for the particular effect\,” adds Beverley Williams.
Feed gesneriads with a balanced fertilizer such as 20-20-20 or 15-30-15 every time you water. Dilute it to avoid burning the roots\, as most fertilizers recommendations are too strong for gesneriads.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT GESNERIAD FOR YOU!
Do you think that because it is too hot or cold in your house that you can’t find the right gesneriad for you? The gesneriad family is extremely varied with plants coming from many regions of the world even though most come from humid tropical areas.
For people who live in warm apartments or houses there are a variety of gesneriads that will thrive. Try growing African Violets\, these popular houseplants are part of the gesneriad family and will tolerate a wide range of temperatures. If you want to grow something different\, Columnea\, Aeschynanthus (Lipstick Plant)\, or Nematanthus (Goldfish Plant)\, are all trailing plants that look magnificent hanging in windows. Their bright yellow\, orange or red flowers bloom all year round.
Even though most gesneriads are very adaptable and are well suited to our warm heated homes\, some actually come from cooler areas of the world. Alpine gesneriads are very adaptable to cooler homes. A cool windowsill is an ideal place to grow Streptocarpus\, Chitias or Petrocosmea\, and other cooler growing gesneriads. Streptocarpus commonly called ‘Cape Primrose’ and native to Africa can even be grown outside in a garden and are sometimes available in local garden centres. They have very showy blooms\, which come in a wide range of colours and patterns\, and are held high on long stems over lush green foliage. Chiritas from China have more fleshy foliage\, which is sometimes marked with patterns and lavender\, blue\, pink or yellow flowers.
 About the Toronto Gesneriad Society:
The Toronto Gesneriad Society\, now in its 33rd year\, is an affiliate of The Gesneriad Society. It has an international membership\, with about two-thirds of its members from Toronto and the GTA and others from across Canada and New York State. Members from the Toronto Gesneriad Society are excited to be attending the Gesneriad Society Convention in Vancouver\, BC from June 28-July 3\, 2010 as it has been many years since The Gesneriad Society Convention has been held in a Canadian city.

DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/5625094/ ] loop Gallery is pleased to announce exhibitions by loop members Mark Adair entitled Death’s Children and Mary Catherine Newcomb entitled Chocolate .
Mark Adair ’s Death’s Children is a new series of small charcoal drawings that completes Death Drinks \, a narrative about the adventures of Death in the modern world. Adair has worked on and off on the series for a decade and it has been exhibited in many shows in various stages of development. Both the subject matter and the labour intensive and detailed style of the work are inspired by the art of the difficult and dangerous 14th Century in western Europe.
Mark Adair is a Toronto artist who does charcoal works on paper and makes sculpture. His work was recently featured in the Patrick Jenkins documentary\, Death Is In Trouble Now \, airing on BRAVO! Television \, which was also the basis for a 25 year retrospective of Adair's work mounted at Brock University's Rodman Hall Arts Centre. Adair is a graduate of York University\, Toronto (BFA 1979) and the University of Victoria (MFA 1982). He is a founding member of the Torontoniensis Collective with whom he has exhibited since the mid 1990's. He has exhibited with Loop since 2004.
Mary Catherine Newcomb 's spring exhibition at Loop features a 4' long reclining "chocolate" hare. The hare regards the viewer balefully and actually consists of a malleable material that smells slightly oily or rancid. A suspended oversized apple blossom crown that is made from copper\, bronze and steel accompanies the rabbit. While heralding the beginning of spring\, this exhibition juxtaposes ideas about beauty\, illusion\, consumption and our complex and often romantic relationship with nature.
Mary Catherine Newcomb was born and raised in Montreal. She received her art education at University of Waterloo and York University. She currently works and resides in Kitchener\, Ontario. She has received numerous grants and awards and her work has been exhibited internationally.
Please join the artists in celebrating the opening reception on Saturday\, March 27th from 2-5 pm.
Mark Adair and Mary Catherine Newcomb will speak about their work during a Question & Answer Session at the gallery on Saturday April 17 at 3pm. Facilitated by Gordon Hatt.

DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/5625099/ ] loop Gallery is pleased to announce exhibitions by loop members Mark Adair entitled Death’s Children and Mary Catherine Newcomb entitled Chocolate .

Direct from the UK\, Bootie is proud to present a rare Stateside appearance from The Kleptones\, one of Britain's best mashup producers. Their recently-released sixth free mashup album\, "Uptime/Downtime" -- their first in two years -- immediately blew up the blogosphere with its dual sides. "Uptime" provides the Bootie dance floor bangers\, while "Downtime" plays the role of a chilled-out after-party. At 11 PM\, live mashup rock band Smash-Up Derby takes the stage\, while in the upstairs room\, Electro-Bootie presents the Future Universal DJs\, as they return to rock the electro remixes. And for the Midnight Mashup Show\, it's the Bootie stage debut of Miss Rahni\, winner of Trannyshack's most recent "Star Search" competition.
Bootie's DJs and house band Smash-Up Derby\, as well as guest mashup DJs from around the world\, keep your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations\, celebrating -- and satirizing -- the many different forms of music. Bootie also presents the infamous Midnight Mashup Show\, featuring local drag and burlesque performers. Bootie showcases the best mashup productions from around the globe ... because one song at a time just isn't enough!
