DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4245845/ ] In 1973\, George W. Headley added a shell grotto to the grounds of the Headley-Whitney Museum. The building was transformed from a three-car garage into a shell grotto with thousands of shells attached to the building's interior. Headley worked with assistants for nearly a year gluing commercially available shells and polished stones to the walls\, doors and window moldings. In addition\, Headley's collection of shell and fossil specimens\, acquired and purchased during his travels are displayed throughout the room. From the coral slabs of the floor mined in the Florida Keys to the four mosaics on the ceiling created by artist and friend Carl Malouf\, Headley created an exotic sea environment full of intriguing furnishings and fanciful objects decorated and constructed with shells. The building was transformed from a three-car garage into a shell grotto with thousands of shells attached to the building's interior. Headley worked with assistants for nearly a year gluing commercially available shells and polished stones to the walls\, doors and window moldings. In addition\, Headley's collection of shell and fossil specimens\, acquired and purchased during his travels are displayed throughout the room. From the coral slabs of the floor mined in the Florida Keys to the four mosaics on the ceiling created by artist and friend Carl Malouf\, Headley created an exotic sea environment full of intriguing furnishings and fanciful objects decorated and constructed with shells. DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4833354/ ] It has been a long\, fascinating odyssey for Jean-Luc Ponty\, who started out as a straight jazz violinist only to become a pioneer of the electric violin in jazz-rock. After studying classical violin at the Paris Conservatory in the early 60s\, Ponty turned to jazz. Thanks to his revolutionary style on the violin he collaborated with some of the best European and American jazz musicians\, such as Quincy Jones\, John Lewis\, Tony Williams and George Duke. He became the first bebop violinist and US jazz magazine\, Down Beat\, created a violin category for him in its critics poll\, until then violinists were voted for in the miscellaneous instruments category. In the early 70s his pioneering work on the electric violin attracted the attention of pop and rock musicians\, he recorded with Elton John and collaborated on several tours and recordings with Frank Zappas Mothers of Invention and John McLaughlins Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 1975 he founded his own rock band and became one of the most prominent figures of the jazz-rock movement in the US\, selling millions of albums that all reached the top of the US charts. Ponty kept touring and recording with his band through the 80s and 90s while also collaborating with Chick Corea\, George Benson\, Allan Holdsworth\, Bela Fleck and Miroslav Vitous. He also formed the Rite of Strings with Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola in the 90s. Critics have acclaimed his most recent band album The Atacama Experience as one of his best since EnigmaticOcean.Tickets for this event are based on seating location and range from $32 to $25. The building was transformed from a three-car garage into a shell grotto with thousands of shells attached to the building's interior. Headley worked with assistants for nearly a year gluing commercially available shells and polished stones to the walls\, doors and window moldings. In addition\, Headley's collection of shell and fossil specimens\, acquired and purchased during his travels are displayed throughout the room. From the coral slabs of the floor mined in the Florida Keys to the four mosaics on the ceiling created by artist and friend Carl Malouf\, Headley created an exotic sea environment full of intriguing furnishings and fanciful objects decorated and constructed with shells. DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4250646/ ] In 1973\, George W. Headley added a shell grotto to the grounds of the Headley-Whitney Museum. The building was transformed from a three-car garage into a shell grotto with thousands of shells attached to the building's interior. Headley worked with assistants for nearly a year gluing commercially available shells and polished stones to the walls\, doors and window moldings. In addition\, Headley's collection of shell and fossil specimens\, acquired and purchased during his travels are displayed throughout the room. From the coral slabs of the floor mined in the Florida Keys to the four mosaics on the ceiling created by artist and friend Carl Malouf\, Headley created an exotic sea environment full of intriguing furnishings and fanciful objects decorated and constructed with shells.
