Known as an inspiration to Jimi Hendrix\, Eric Clapton\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, and many other guitarists\, Buddy Guy’s music can vary from the most traditional blues to a creative\, unpredictable mix of the blues\, avant rock\, soul and free jazz that morphs at each night’s performance. Elvin Bishop stirs up every party with a bluesy stew of slide guitar and groovin’ rhythms which have earned him the reputation as one of the most respected and beloved artists to come out of the ‘60s blues-rock explosion. The performance will take place at the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium\, 10 Avenue of the Flags at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael on Friday\, November 13th at 8pm.              Born in Lettsworth\, Louisiana in 1936\, Buddy Guy learned to play the guitar when he was just seven years old on a two-string contraption he made that attached to a piece of wood and secured with his mother's hairpins. In 1957\, Buddy moved to Chicago where he recorded with Chess Records playing with legends such as Muddy Waters\, Howlin' Wolf\, Little Walter\, Sonny Boy Williamson\, Koko Taylor and others.          Buddy’s career then took off during the blues revival period of the late 1980s and early 1990s and sparked by Eric Clapton's request that he be part of the “24 Nights” all-star blues guitar lineup at London's Royal Albert Hall. Shortly after Buddy signed with Silvertone Records and his first three albums Damn Right - I've Got the Blues\, Feels Like Rain\, and Slippin' In\, all earned Grammy Awards.  In 2005 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Along with his five Grammy’s\, Buddy has also received 23 W.C. Handy Blues Awards\, the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement\, and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. www.buddyguy.net 
             Elvin Bishop started playing guitar at the age of 15 when he became hooked on the sounds of Chuck Berry\, Fats Domino and Little Richard.
             A National Merit Scholar Elvin attended The University of Chicago where he met harmonica player Paul Butterfield and the two became instant friends. Together\, they formed the legendary Paul Butterfield Blues Band releasing two pivotal rock albums - The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Album and East West.  In 1968\, Elvin moved to San Francisco and formed The Elvin Bishop Group. Elvin hit the charts big-time with several solo tracks like Travelin' Shoes\, Sure Feels Good and what would become his biggest hit\, Fooled Around and Fell in Love\, featuring a powerful vocal by Mickey Thomas (later of Jefferson Starship). 
             In 2005\, he released Gettin' My Groove Back and in 2008 his most recent album The Blues Roles On\, on Delta Groove Music. With support from B. B. King\, Warren Haynes\, Derek Trucks\, George Thorogood\, James Cotton\, Kim Wilson\, Tommy Castro\, John Nemeth and Angela Strehli\, the album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. www.elvinbishopmusic.com

DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4843548/ ] Guitar Orchestra of Barcelona is composed of twenty-five of Spain’s most gifted guitarists\, led by Director and Founder Sergi Vincente. The material that the orchestra performs is the fruit of a constant labor of investigation and adaptation. The result is a varied and novel repertoire\, made up of works by extravagant composers and contemporary authors\, with a strong emphasis on Spanish music. Program for the Marin Center performance includes songs such as Danzas Cervantinas\, Sonata en D Major\, Danzas Cubanas\, and De “El Amor Brujo.”
             Formed in 1989\, the ensemble started with eight of Sergi’s students with the intention of enriching their academic studies. As time went on\, the ensemble became a much more ambitious project and developed into the twenty-five chair Guitar Orchestra it is today. So far\, more than seventy guitarists have passed through the orchestra’s ranks\, many of them going on to impressive careers as soloists. 
             Despite touring festivals and performing throughout Spain and Europe\, there remains a close connection between the orchestra and the place of its inception\, the Conservatorio Superior de Mùsica del Liceo de Barcelona. All members of the orchestra are teachers\, graduates or master level students of the Conservatorio. This prestigious musical institution also serves as a regular headquarters for the orchestra as its members rehearse and work there on a weekly basis. In 2001\, the orchestra recorded its first CD\, Orquestra de Guitarres de Barcelona\, which received enthusiastic praise from both the public and the press.

 Downtown San Rafael will once again host its annual holiday Parade & Winter Wonderland. In its 31st year\, the event features a Holiday Marketplace with arts and crafts\, live entertainment\, children’s activities\, free snow sledding\, and one of the largest Holiday Parades in the Bay Area. 
 In 2008 the event was attended by people from all over Marin County. It enjoys a very “local” feel and is known as a great destination for people of all ages. The event starts at noon with free snow sledding and kids’ activities\, then is followed by the Holiday Marketplace at 2 pm and the Parade at 5:30 pm.
 Following the Parade\, Santa\, Ms. Claus and other costumed characters arrive with the Mayor of San Rafael to the center of town in the City Plaza to light the official Holiday Tree. Following the Tree Lighting Ceremony\, Santa and friends are available for a meet and greet with the kids. 
 The entire event is free to the public and occurs the day after Thanksgiving\, one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Don’t miss this great opportunity to take advantage of the Holiday shopping season. Due to the time of year\, we recommend that all exhibitors provide your own battery powered lights for your booth.

 With these words Rudolf Steiner ends his engagement in the original Waldorf School. Ninety years later we might ask ourselves: Do we now also need a new impulse?
 How can we balance structure and form with impulse and creativity so that they serve a "new impulse" for Waldorf schools - an impulse that is needed as we approach the centenary of this new educational paradigm.
 This 3-day conference will be concentrated. The days will be relatively short - 9:00am to 3:30pm on Thursday and Friday\; 9:00 to 12:30 on Saturday -- so that participants can commute more easily\, need not be away from home all day\, and still have something of a weekend.
 In order to make this conference affordable\, we will have a minimal registration fee of $35. We are investigating the possibility of having simple lunches provided by the Marin Waldorf School 8th graders\, as a fund-raiser for their 8th grade trip. Local restaurants are\, of course\, also available. We ask you to organize any required lodging - several local motels can be found here or by searching "Marin motels" on the internet. Refreshment during coffee breaks will be provided.
