Those students who have already had some experience in learning Hungarian may find their place among the different levels after a placement test and an interview. The groups are made up of a minimum number of 4 and a maximum number of 8 students. Our teachers are professional \, dynamic and experienced teachers. After the course and taking the final exam students are given a certificate (transcript of records) with credit points earned at the course\, moreover\, they have the opportunity to take the accredited\, international ECL language exam at the Foreign Language Centre of the University of Pécs. The Hungarian Language and Culture Summer University is a 4-week-long course but it can be attended for two or three weeks as well. This time it is going to start on 27th July and last until 24th August\, 2008. It contains 30 language lessons a week. The event is offered to document and celebrate the diversity of American Studies as a field of intellectual and political adventure in a world going global\, at the same time surveying the current state of the profession in Hungary and beyond. The broad thematic frame of the conference is offered by the current historical context in Hungary and all over Europe\, with higher education undergoing radical changes\, affecting liberal arts and the humanities. All that\, coupled with requirements for the new American Studies BA and MA programs have set the boundaries of teaching and research activity nationwide. This new situation generates several questions for the present and the future: What is the current state of American Studies in a changing national and international environment? How do individual contributions to the field shape the contours of American Studies as well as its position within disciplinary boundaries? What is it that we can/should achieve within the new boundaries in response to demands in view of teaching and research concerns? We believe that questions like these can be best investigated through the individual and institutional practices of American Studies. Papers are invited in fields ranging from cultural studies\, literature\, history through linguistics or media and visual culture. Any presentation format will be welcome\, including individual papers\, roundtable discussions\, or workshops (with proposed time frame and number of participants).
