      About Symphonic Poem
      A symphonic poem or tone poem is a piece of orchestral music in one movement in which some extramusical program provides a narrative or illustrative element. This program may come from a poem\, a story ornovel\, a painting\, or another source. The term was first applied to byFranz Liszt to his 13 one-movement orchestral works in this vein. Theywere not pure symphonies in the classical sense because they dealt with descriptive subjects taken from mythology\, Romantic literature\, recenthistory or imaginitive fantasy. In other words\, these works were "programmatic" rather than abstract. The form was a direct product of Romanticism which encouraged literary\, pictorial and dramaticassociations in music.       CITME – China International Textile Machinery Exhibition
      CITME was launched in 1988. It has grown to be the most established as well as the largest international textile machinery exhibition in China. With its authoritative background and professional operation\, CITME has become the first ever international textile machinery exhibition in China endorsed by UFI ( the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) in 2002. The 10th edition of CITME\, which is sponsored by China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC)\, and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and organised by the Sub-Council of Textile Industry\, CCPIT (CCPIT TEX)\, China Textile Machinery Associations (CTMA)\, and China International Exhibition Center Group Corporation (CIEC) was successfully held in Beijing in October 2006.       Li Xincao -“One of the young prestigious conductors in the musical world.”
      Li Xincao\, born in North China's Hebei Province in 1971\, is the resident conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra and the principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Ballet Orchestra of China.
      As an active young conductor\, Li Xincao has toured many cities of China and abroad. Besides cooperating with many domestic orchestras\, he has frequently collaborated with the National Orchestra de Lille\, the Besancon Opera House\, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Tivoli Orchestra\, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa\, the Korean KBS Symphony Orchestra\, the Hong Kong Orchestra\, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta\, and the Hong Kong Ballet. He has successfully conducted many operas including Madame Butterfly\, Rigoletto\, Traviata\, Aida and Tosca. In the end of 2002\, Lin Xincao will lead CNSO to tour in Japan\, Australia and Europe.
      In series of concerts\, he has shown his adaptability to different programs and his correct understanding of different styles of works. He was praised especially for his excellent performance in German and Austrian works and in the new works by the Chinese contemporary composers.

      Tan Dun’s Tea: A Mirror of Soul was first staged at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall in 2002 and has since triumphed in Germany\, France\, and New Zealand.Based on the story of a doomed love affair between a Japanese monk anda Chinese princess\, Tea combines the lyricism of Italian opera\, lushWestern orchestration\, a male “Greek chorus\,” gamelan-like percussion\,and the organic sounds of nature — water\, paper\, and stones — allcoming together in a powerful work of musical drama. Tan Dun sees Teaas a 21st-century opera\, a challenge to Western ideas of classicalmusic-theater.
      Synopsis:
      Act I
      Kyoto\, Japan.Ancient times. Japanese tea ceremony inside a temple tea garden. Highmonk Seikyo raises an empty teapot\, passes an empty bowl\, and savorsempty tea ritualistically. Chanting monks ask why he savors the teafrom emptiness. Seikyo\, a Prince by birth\, relates that ten years agohe became a monk because of his bitter love...
      Tenyears earlier. ChangAn\, ancient Chinese capital. Family bliss insidethe palace. Beautiful Princess Lan and her brother the Prince performfor their father. Seikyo enters and the Emperor receives him withsurprise. They speak of fond memories. Seikyo expresses his wish tomarry Lan. The Emperor hesitates\, and asks Seikyo to recite a tea poem.The Prince angrily expresses his disapproval. Seikyo's excellence atreciting leads the Emperor to consent.
      Amidsta Chinese tea ceremony\, a Persian arrives\, offering a thousand horsesin exchange for one book: The Book of Tea. Treasured secrets fill thisbook of wisdom. The Prince\, who possesses this book\, reluctantlyretrieves it from his sleeve. Seikyo expresses doubt that this is thetrue book shown him by its author\, his teacher the Tea Sage Luyu. Angryand jealous\, the Prince challenges Seikyo\; vowing to sacrifice his ownlife if Seikyo can show him the "real" Book of Tea. Seikyo promises toend his life if proven wrong.
      Act II
      Seikyoand Lan travel south in search of the true Book of Tea. Lan acquaintsSeikyo with the legend of how tea was invented thousands of years ago.On the journey their love blossoms.
      Act III
      Inthe South\, Seikyo and Lan arrive during a ritual tea ceremony\, offeredby Lu\, daughter of Tea Sage Luyu. Lu announces Luyu's death. Sheconsents to give Seikyo and Lan the Book of Tea on the condition thatthey vow to spread its wisdom throughout the world. As they read\, thePrince bursts in and grabs it. A fight erupts between Seikyo and thePrince. Attempting to stop the duel\, Lan is mortally wounded. Coveredin blood\, Lan drinks the tea of emptiness. The Prince kneels beforeSeikyo\, presenting his sword. Instead of killing the Prince\, Seikyoslices off his own hair...
      Thechanting of monks returns... In a Japanese tea garden\, high monk Seikyoraises the empty teapot\, passes the empty tea bowls\, and savors theempty tea.

      Zubin Mehta\, one of the world's greatest conductors\, is a Parsee\, whose Zoroastrian ancestors took refuge in India after the Muslim conquest of Persia more than a millennium ago.
      Hehas been the conductor of the Israel Philharmonic since 1991. Beforethat\, he led the New York Philharmonic (1978-91)\, the Los Angeles Philharmonic (1962-78) and the Montreal Symphony (1961-67).
      Hismusical career has been a long series of "firsts." He was the youngestman to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic\, theyoungest to become music director of a major American orchestra\, thefirst and\, so far\, the only music director of the Israel Philharmonic.His debut in London\, on the night of Sir Thomas Beecham's death\, was the first time any person from the former dominion of India had appeared with a major British orchestra.
      The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
      TheIsrael Philharmonic Orchestra was founded by Bronislaw Huberman in1936. Huberman was a Zionist and founded the orchestra in order to saveJewish musicians in Europe from theHolocaust\, which he foresaw. The inaugural concert\, on December 26th1936\, was conducted by the legendary Arturo Toscanini to great acclaim\,with the "Palestine Orchestra"\, as it was then known\, beingcharacterised as "an orchestra of soloists". With Israel′sindependence in 1948 it was renamed "The Israel PhilharmonicOrchestra". It is now considered "one of the ten best orchestras in theworld today".

      Medea is a tragedy written by Euripides\, based on the myth of Jason and Medea and first produced in 431 BC.
      Thisinventive\, water-bound retelling of the Medea myth was warmly receivedon its travels round the world\, enchanting audiences with its visualpower and ingenious coupling of silent\, stylized movement with thedrama of Bellini's operas.
      The Story
      Medeawas a devotee of the goddess Hecate\, and one of the great sorceressesof the ancient world. She was the daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis\, and the granddaughter of Helios\, the sun god.
      King Aeetes' most valuable possession was a golden ram's fleece. When Jason and the crew of the Argo arrived at Colchisseeking the Golden Fleece\, Aeetes was unwilling to relinquish it andset Jason a series of seemingly impossible tasks as the price ofobtaining it. Medea fell in love with Jason and agreed to use her magicto help him\, in return for Jason's promise to marry her.
      Jasonfled in the Argo after obtaining the golden fleece\, taking Medea andher younger brother\, Absyrtis\, with him. King Aeetes pursued them. Inorder to delay the pursuit\, Medea killed her brother and cut his bodyinto pieces\, scattering the parts behind the ship. The pursuers had tostop and collect Absyrtis' dismembered body in order to give it properburial\, and so Jason\, Medea and the Argonauts escaped.
      Afterthe Argo returned safely to Iolcus\, Jason's home\, Medea continued usingher sorcery. She restored the youth of Jason's aged father\, Aeson\, bycutting his throat and filling his body with a magical potion. She thenoffered to do the same for Pelias the king of Iolcus who had usurpedAeson's throne. She tricked Pelias' daughters into killing him\, butleft the corpse without any youth-restoring potion.
      After the murder of Pelias\, Jason and Medea had to flee Iolcus\; they settled next in Corinth. There Medea bore Jason two children before Jason forsook her in order to marry the daughter of Creon\, the king of Corinth.Medea got revenge for Jason's desertion by killing the new bride with apoisoned robe and crown which burned the flesh from her body\; KingCreon died as well when he tried to embrace his dying daughter. Medeafled Corinthin a chariot\, drawn by winged dragons\, which belonged to hergrandfather Helios. She took with her the bodies of her two children\,whom she had murdered in order to give Jason further pain.
      Medea then took refuge with Aegeus\, the old king of Athens\,having promised him that she would use her magic to enable him to havemore children. She married Aegeus and bore him a son\, Medus. But Aegeushad another son\, Theseus. When Theseus returned to Athens\, Medea tried to trick her husband into poisoning him. She was unsuccessful\, and had to flee Athens\, taking Medus with her. After leaving Athens\, Medus became king of the country which was later called Media.

      The ballet La Sylphide\, first performed in Parisin 1832\, introduced the period of the romantic ballet. Marie Taglionidanced the part of the Sylphide\, a supernatural creature who is lovedand inadvertently destroyed by a mortal man. The choreography\, createdby her father\, Filippo Taglioni\, exploited the use of toe dancing toemphasize his daughter's otherworldly lightness and insubstantiality. La Sylphideinspired many changes in the ballets of the time-in theme\, style\,technique\, and costume. Its successor\, Giselle (1841)\, also contrastedthe human and supernatural worlds\, and in its second act the ghostlyspirits called wilis wear the white tutu popularized in La Sylphide.

      Napoli\, or The Fisherman and His Bride is a ballet created in 1842 for Denmark's Royal Ballet by Danish choreographer and ballet master August Bournonville. The ballet tells the story of Teresina\, a young Italian girl who falls in love with Gennaro\, a fisherman. The tale culminates in the marriage of the lovers.

      TheRoyal Danish Ballet is the world's third oldest ballet companiesfounded back in 1748 – and with its Bournonville tradition the companyholds an exceptional position internationally. No other ballet companyhas kept as many ballets in its repertory\, danced in an uninterruptedtradition from the Romantic period of the nineteenth century: La Sylphide\, Napoli and A Folk Tale are master pieces\, not only in Danish ballet history but also in an international context.

      LA SYLPHIDE - A Romantic Masterpiece
      La Sylphideis the most captivating character of classic ballet. She appeals toboth audience and dancers\, who for generations have been fascinated andbeguiled by Bournonville's timeless message. Portrayed with melancholicsentiment and magnificent dance the ballet deals with the incongruityof settled bourgeois life and the irresistible allure of the unknown.
      La Sylphideis a breakthrough work in European Romantic ballet. The ballet mirrorsits time and is eternal in its subject matter. The young Scotsman\,James\, is split between the world he knows and the dream of adifferent\, more tempting and dangerous life. The ballet conveys theRomantic notion that humans are double beings with a light and a darkside. Spleen\, Weltschmerz and mal de siècle are keywords inunderstanding this ballet\, which with its dramatic representation ofthe human condition has retained its immediate appeal.
      Inspired by French Romanticism\, La Sylphideis Bournonville's only tragic ballet. Stylistically\, it is a sublimecombination of mime and choreography. Bournonville commissioned thecomposer Herman Severin L?venskiold to compose a new\, original score.
      La Sylphidewas created in 1832 by Filipo Taglioni to his daughter the dancer MariaTaglioni at the Paris Opera. Bournonville saw the ballet in Paris in 1834\, and two years later he staged his own version in Copenhagenwith Lucile Grahn as the Sylph and himself as James. While the balletdisappeared from the international ballet stages – the last Paris performance was in 1860 – it remains a traditional repertoire fixture at the Royal Danish Theatre.
      NAPOLI - Bubbling joie de vivre
      Italian folklore\, romantic love and bubbling joie de vivre form the core of Bournonville's famous ballet Napoli. This gripping tale of the charming Teresina and the poor fisherman Gennaro\, whose love is challenged by the sea spirit Golfo and his seductive naiads\, is homage to love.
      Napoliis one of the most important principle works of the Royal DanishBallet's unique Bournonville legacy but it is also among the mostprominent works in the entire international ballet repertoire. Theballet features folktales while also mirroring the Romanticist view oflife shared by the choreographer. This is a commanding example ofpositive\, Danish Romanticism where Virtue\, Love and Lightness arevictorious. The celebratory dance of the third act has with time becomethe hallmark of the Royal Danish Ballet.
      Choreographicallyspeaking\, the classic step design of the pas de six is juxtaposed withnational dance – here an Italian tarantella – just as the balletcontains passages of miming that range from the merry to the tragic.

      BeijingDance/ LDTX Classics is a collection of 4 different works\, which demonstrateLDTX’s true scope of perspective and technique. The Cold Dagger excerpt is a climactic 10-minute version of the full-evening work set to a beautiful score by Gorecki. The Eagle\, featuring 4 male dancers\, is choreographed by a native of Inner-Mongolian. The mesmerizing piece investigates the mystical province of China fraught with history and tradition.

      Madame White Snake\, Legend of the White Snake\, is a Chinese legend\, which existed as oral traditions before any written compilation of the Ming Dynasty. It has since become a major subject of several Chinese opera\, films\, and TV series.
      With a combination of peking opera\, acrobatics\, martial art\, dance\, and magic show\, the performance tells a story of a young scholar\, Xu Xian\, who falls in love with a beautiful woman Bai Suzhen\, unaware that she is a white snake which has taken on human form. A Taoist monk Fa Hai intervenes in order to save the scholar's soul and casts the white snake into a deep well at the Leifeng Pagoda.
      The Story is set in the Southern Song Dynasty. Over the centuries the story has evolved from horror story to romance with the scholar and the white snake-woman genuinely in love with one another. An added character is a green snake Xiao Qing who has also been turned into a woman and serves as the white snake-woman's companion and confidante. Bai and Xu got married\, opened a medicine shop and lived happily at the West Lake in Hangzhou. When the town was struck by a plague and it was soon on the verge of becoming extinct\, Bai and Qing obtained the magical herb needed to help the population. But a sorcerer called Fa Hai believes it is the disaster that demons bring about and tries to eliminate Bai and Qing. On the fifth day of the fifth month\, the Dragon Boat Festival is held. It is said the day that demons revert to their true selves. Xu Xian falls for Fa Hai's tricks and fuddles his wife with realgar wine. Drunken Bai shows her true self\, scaring Xian literally to death! Bai retrieves the herbal medicine and brings Xian back to life. Later Bai gets pregnant\, but Xu Xian falls for Fa Hai's tricks yet again and goes to the Golden Mount Temple. Having battled with Fa Hai\, Bai and Qing meet Xu at the Broken Bridge of the West Lake\, and Bei tells her husband the truth about her origin and her difficulties after giving birth to a son. Xian is heart-touched and kindly accepts her. The lovers are united.
      The plot of White Snake is full of magic: snakes turning themselves into women\, monsters\, battles among heavenly creatures and demons\, and so on. Magic\, history\, myth\, and legend in the opera meld nicely into potent overarching themselves like love and power.

      Kook Soo Ho is a legendary Korean musician\, and his troup\, Kook Soo Ho Didim\, is renowned for its exemplary presentations of Korean drumming. The troupe is perhaps best known for its performance during the ceremonies at the 1988 Olympics\, held in Seoul. The drummers’ ability to essay the harmony and purity of age-old Korean music while simultaneously uplifting their audience is stunning to experience.
      Kook Soo-ho Didim Dance Company\, founded in 1987 has made great achievements in Korean dance community for the past 15 years. It has been invited to perform in the celebration ceremony of the president inauguration\, Winter Universiade\, the performances held for the spirit of national holidays\, National Sports Festival and celebration performances of social organizations thus inspiring not just the audience of the theater but also the audience of the general public.

      Teatro La Fenice ("The Phoenix") is an opera house in Venice\, Italy. Inaugurated in 1792\, La Fenicedistinguished itself as one of the major Italian and European theatres\,writing opera history with the debuts of numerous masterpieces.
      La Fenice is the most important opera house in Italy after La Scala\, Milan.
      La Fenice is one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world and the place where Verdi's Rigoletto and La Traviatahad their first performances. The building was gutted by a fire inJanuary\, 1996 and is currently being rebuilt. The theater is scheduledto reopen in late 2003.
      Brief Introduction
      The Birth of La Fenice
      In 1774\, the San Benedetto Theater\, which had been Venice'sleading opera house for more than forty years\, was burned to theground. No sooner had it been rebuilt than a legal dispute broke outbetween the company managing it and the owners\, the Venier family. Theissue was decided in favor of the Veniers\, with the result that thetheater company decided to build a new opera house of its own on theCampo San Fantin. From the twenty-nine architectural plans which weresubmitted\, the one by Gian Antonio Selva was chosen. The building worksbegan in June 1790\; by May 1792 the auditorium was completed. It wasnamed " La Fenice" (The Phoenix)\, in an allusion to the company's survival\, first of the fire\, then of expulsion from its former base. La Fenicewas inaugurated on May 16\, 1792 with an opera by Giovanni Paisielloentitled "I Giochi di Agrigento" ( Distractions of Agrigento). Thelibretto was written by Alessandro Pepoli.
      The Fame of La Fenice
      From the beginning of the 19th century\, La Feniceacquired a European reputation. Rossini mounted two major productionsin the theater and Bellini had two operas premiered there. Donizetti\,fresh from his triumphs in Milan and Naples\, returned to Venice--and La Fenice--in1836\, after an absence of seventeen years. Thus the three greatestItalian composers of the period each affirmed the theater'spreeminence\, but in December 1836 it was tragically burned down yetagain. The following year Giambattista and Tommaso Meduna werecommissioned to design a new theater\, with decor by Tranquillo Orsi. La Fenice rose once again from its ashes on the evening of December 26\, 1837.
      Verdi at La Fenice
      Verdi's association with La Fenicebegan in 1844\, with a performance of "Hernani" during the Carnivalseason. Over the next thirteen years\, the world premieres of "Attila"\,"Rigoletto"\, "La Traviata" and "Simon Boccanegra" all took place there.
      La Fenice in the 20th Century
      After a period of closure during the First World War\, La Feniceagain became the scene of intense activity\, attracting the world'sgreatest singers and conductors. In 1930\, the Biennale initiated theFirst International Festival of Contemporary Music\, which broughtcomposers like Stravinsky and Britten\, and more recently Berio\, Nonoand Bussotti\, to write for La Fenice. Latterly\, as part of the theater's bicentenary celebrations\, La Fenice has put on a series of revivals of some of its greatest triumphs.

      This musical celebrates the art of movement (classical dance\, contemporary\, hip-hop\,acrobatics\, martial arts…) and music and links them indelibly with ourtime.  It takes us to a universe of fantasy where dancing\, singing andmusic become the primary modes of expression.  Marco Polo takes us ontwo journeys : the first being the Silk Road and the second being avoyage of self discovery.
      Some artists succeedin bringing everything together perfectly.  Marie-Claude Pietragalla iswithout doubt one of them : a star dancer of Paris Opera ballet\, she isone of the most lauded dancers of contemporary choreography  as well asbeing a choreographer in her own right.  She has a strong\, demandingand passionate character that can be felt in her work.
      JulienDeroualt started dancing in 1994\, attending workshops held by LarrioEkson and Rheda\, he then studied at the Marseille National SuperiorSchool of Dance after which he joined the Marseille National Ballet. Hewas named lead dancer by M. C Pietragalla\, and it was he who danced thelead parts in her creations.
        
      The self taught grand master ofhaute couture with a worldwide reputation for excellence\, the creativevisionary\, the untiring businessman with an empire that stretches toall four corners of the planet.  A master of diplomacy\, Pierre Cardinhas contributed to the mutual understanding and entente cordiale thatexists between the people of France and China over the 25 years that hehas been present in China.

      Produced in 2004\, Terracotta Warriors took North Americaby storm during its 72-performance inaugural world tour. The 2-hourlong journey through the life of one of the most well-known historicalfigures in all of China represents the most astounding presentation of Chinese performing arts in the west over the course of human history.
      Since its premiere in Vancouver three years ago\, Terracotta Warriors has been performed on stage over 120 times and enjoyed by over 128\,000 audiences across North America.
      Theincredible story of Terracotta Warriors combines extravagant dance andsongs with spectacular martial arts in an unprecedented fashion in thieAction-Musical.       Synopsis
      The ghost of the First Emperor\, Qin ShiHuang\, revels amidst his legacy of warriors.
      Qinarmy defeats the army of the state of Qi. The King of Qin istriumphant\; he is now crowned as the First Emperor in a gloriousceremony. Zhao Gao was a childhood friend of the Emperor who wascastrated to become his assistant and confident. He new leads sixconcubines intot he imperial chambers to seduce the Emperor. Thebeautiful and favourite Meng Ying is chosen.
      TheEmperor celebrates the unification of currency\, language\, weights andmeasure\, roads\, and irrigation systems. The Emperor revels in hispower. But the eunuch Zhao Gao enters to expose a conspiracy againstthe throne. The ***-starved middle-aged Queen Mother is engaged in atorrid ***ual escapade with Lu Bu Wei\, the conspirator. Soldiersinterrupt the passionate affair and Lu is immediately arrested andsentenced. For his crime against the State\, Lu is executed by the useof five hourses. The Emperor awakens from a dream delirious. He isobsessed by the image of Confucius and the ghostly admonishment causesthe Emperor to become even more paranoid. On palace grounds\,conscripted peasants are trained into the invincible Qin army.
      ZhaoGao leads Meng Ying to rendezvous with her fiancée\, Yang Ming\, in thecountryside. Soldiers interrupt their romantic interlude\, and drag YangMing away. Artists demonstrate their skills in the town square. Qinsoldiers demand surrender of all weapons\, and a battle ensues.Confiscated weapons are thrown into incinerators. From the moltenmetal\, giant statues are created to celebrate the glory of the Qinrealm.
      Threeseparate assassination attempts on the Emperor are depictedsequentially. The Emperor is obsessed by the fear of death. Zhao Gaopresents him a dreaded jade funeral mask. The Emperor's nerves areshattered by the reappearance of the ghost of Confucius. He consultspriestesses in the search for immortality. In the world's firstCultural Revolution\, books are burned and scholars are buried alive.Laborers are hard at work building the Great Wall. Meng Ying arrives tovisit her fiancée Yang Ming\, now a conscripted laborer. Qin soldiersagain interrupt their passionate encounter.
      Backat the palace\, Meng Ying pleads for her lover's life\, in exchange forher loyalty to the Emperor forever. There are widespread uprisingsagainst the Emperor's forces all over the country. He goes on an ocean rampageto kill a giant sea creature. Soon\, he dies on account of a mysteriousillness. Zhao Gao takes revenge by dumping the imperial coffin full offoul-smelling dead fish. Both the Emperor's death and the symbolic andvengeful act allow Zhao Gao to be liberated and transformed. At thefuneral\, some concubines will be buried alive with the Emperor.
      Inthe afterlife\, ghosts of terracotta warrior statues march forward. Theghosts of Emperor Qin\, Yang Ming\, and Meng Ying appear as equals\, andthe Emperor is mocked. The lovers triumph in ghostly celebration.
