Täglich starten neue\, innovative Angebote\, die um das knappe Gut der öffentlichen Aufmerksamkeit buhlen. Dies stellt die bisherige Kommunikationsstrategie von NGO in Frage.
      Deshalb steht im SocialCamp neben der Vernetzung von Online-ExpertInnen und VertreterInnen gemeinnütziger Organisationen der Austausch im Mittelpunkt: Welche Entwicklungen im Internet sind für die Arbeit von NGO von Interesse? Wie können NGO erfolgreich im Internet agieren? Welche Veränderungen bringt das Internet für die strategische Ausrichtung von NGO mit sich?
      Die Idee für das SocialCamp entstand in der Bloggercommunity. Hier finden bereits seit einigen Jahren Internetkonferenzen unter dem Namen Barcamp statt. Als Teil einer globalen Veranstaltungsreihe steht hier der Gedanke des freien Wissensaustauschs über technische Innovationen des Web 2.0 und der allgemeinen Netzwerkbildung im Vordergrund. Das Barcamp ist ein Element der OpenSource-Bewegung im realen Raum. Die enge Verbindung zu Barcamp wird nicht nur im Namen\, sondern auch im Veranstaltungsformat deutlich. Jeder Teilnehmer entscheidet frei über die Inhalte des Workshops und kann als Referent tätig sein.
