Lotus Vodka donates a part of its revenue to a good cause.
It will be a dinner celebration existing of a 3 course set menu ($35)\, an after party (free)\, an art exhibition by Debi Tonge\, Karaoke\, candies\, performances and more...

SUMMARY:Her Rebel Highness: The Official Public Debut!
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4748918/ ] "Her Rebel Highness"\, a fully choreographed musical act with three female vocalists\, dancers\, 18th century costumes\, baroque-pop songs and theatrics\, makes its debut on Fri.\, Nov. 13 at J'LaChic Theater 39 at Pier 39 in San Francisco.
The show's central theme is empowerment and founder Velia Amarasingham explains\, "A significant part of the inspiration for this piece comes from all of the independent and career-focused women I have met since moving to the San Francisco Bay Area from Sydney\, Australia\, more than 10 years ago."
This inspiration has evolved into a new production that stars a soul singer\, a mezzo soprano and a pop vocalist who take on the personas of rebellious 18th century princesses\, determined to break out of their stereotypes and to take control of their destinies. Two modern dancers complete the line-up and to complete the concept\, the music transitions from baroque to pop as the princesses reveal more and more of their modern attitudes.
Amarasingham says\, "I have made the transition from artist to entrepreneur and attribute my female peers who have set wonderful examples." It's no wonder San Francisco ranks higher than any other American city for women's entrepreneurship\, according to the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women.
She adds\, "Her Rebel Highness is for all of the avid Masterpiece Theater fans who\, like myself\, are simply dying to see an 18th century heroine break out of her tiresome state and take charge. We shan't disappoint!"
The evening will begin with guest performances by burlesque dance troupe\, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and magician Heather Rogers.
Reserved Seating: $30\, General Admission: $25.

SUMMARY:Mystical Arts of Tibet: Sacred Music Sacred Dance
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4769821/ ] In recent years The Mystical Arts of Tibet tours\, featuring the famed multiphonic singers of Drepung Loseling monastery\, have taken the world by storm. Tibetan temple music is particularly renowned in the West for its two forms of multiphonic singing known as jok-kay (low tone) and bar-da (high tone). It has also been referred to as "throat singing."
In both forms\, each of the main chantmasters simultaneously intones three notes\, thus each individually creating a complete chord. The Tibetans are the only known people who cultivate this most extraordinary vocal ability.
This tradition is also known as "overtone singing" because it is accomplished by means of learning to control the muscles of the vocal cavity and then re-shaping it while singing\, thus intensifying the natural overtones of the voice. In essence\, the body is transformed into an effective overtone amplifier.
The monks also perform a number sacred dances\, including the Snow Lion Dance\, the Dance of the Skeleton Lords\, and the Dance of the Celestial Travelers.
Endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a means of promoting world peace and healing through sacred performing art\, they have performed in many of America's greatest theaters and music halls.

SUMMARY:10th Annual San Francisco World Music Festival
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4842978/ ] Door Dog Music Productions presents the SAN FRANCISCO WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL bringing master musicians from different parts of the globe to the Bay Area for special concerts\, workshops and more. This Fall in San Francisco\, we will celebrate the Tenth Annual San Francisco World Music Festival in November 13-22\, 2009\, with an exciting gathering of some of the most interesting musicians in the world.
This year's commissioned work\, which will premiere on November 22\, 7PM\, at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco\, is the "International Youth Music Initiative"\, which started last year after receiving a generous grant from the Sam Mazza Foundation\, and since has traveled across the globe to unite the youth of the world through music. This initiative brings together youth from all over the Bay Area\, 12-18 years of age\, combining a diverse range of our world's musical traditions and cultures\, from the ragas of North India to the choral music of Eastern Europe. In addition to investing in the youth of the Bay Area\, the initiative has also traveled to the mountains of Nepal\, rural Taiwan\, and the mountains of Kyrgyzstan to pass on to underprivileged youth their traditional music. Within the next couple years\, students from these regions will join the group performing in the Bay Area.
This dialogue between 100 youth and 12 masters from 4 countries\, having diverse global perspectives\, is an effort to promote and preserve ethnic music here in the Bay Area\, as well as\, to provide youth from oppressed or endangered cultures of the world a voice to express themselves through their traditional music. It is an effort to challenge and inspire our next generation to learn about the global issues facing their peers in their own communities and of those around the world.
Other Festival events include a Film Night on 11/13\, 7pm\; Songs of Kyrgyzstan on 11/15\, 7pm\; Festival Assembly Program on 11/16\, 3pm\; Tablas and more Tablas on 11/19\, 8pm.

SUMMARY:Pianist Angela Hewitt in concert
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4809725/ ] San Francisco Performances brings back celebrated pianist Angela Hewitt for a recital featuring Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor and Partita No. 1\, in B-flat Major as well as Schumann's Davidsbundlertanze\,Opus 6 and Sonata in G minor\, Opus 22.
Known for her magnetic musicianship and precise technique\, Hewitt is a renowned Bach specialist. Completed in 2005\, her 11-year project to record all the composer's major keyboard works has been described as "one of the record glories of our age" (The Sunday Times) and she has been hailed as "the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time" (The Guardian).
Her recordings of Bach's complete solo keyboard concertos with the Australian Chamber Orchestra made the Billboard charts in the United States\, and were named Record of the Month in Gramophone magazine. The first of a series of CDs featuring the music of Schumann was released in November 2007. Beyond that\, Hewitt's vast discography includes CDs of works by Granados\, Beethoven\, Rameau\, Chabrier\, Messiaen\, Ravel\, Chopin\, and others.
In July 2005\, Hewitt launched her own Trasimeno Music Festival in the heart of Umbria in Italy. Now an annual event\, it offers seven concerts over seven days featuring Hewitt as a recitalist\, chamber musician\, song accompanist and conductor\, working with both established and young artists of her choosing.
Born into a musical family (her father was the cathedral organist in Ottawa\, Canada). Hewitt began her piano studies at age three and during her formative years also studied violin\, recorder and classical ballet. At nine she gave her first recital at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music where she later studied. She then went on to study with French pianist Jean-Paul Sevilla at the University of Ottawa.
Named Gramophone Artist of the Year in 2006\, Hewitt was awarded the first ever BBC Radio 3 Listener's Award (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards) in 2003. She has lived in London since 1985 but also has homes in Ottawa and Umbria.

SUMMARY:Truce of Carols & Amahl and the Night Visitors
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4766962/ ] WORLD PREMIERE and a Holiday Favorite!
TRUCE OF CAROLS is new opera based on the poignant\, true story of Christmas Eve 1914\, in the Belgian trenches of WWI. Michael Taylor has created a vibrantly beautiful new opera that envelopes us in that moment of time.
AMAHL & the NIGHT VISITORS features 10 year old Ryan Nelson as the title character\, Amahl\; Margaret Lisi as his mother\; and Eric Coyne\, Martin Bell\, and Norm DeVol as the "Visitors" in this holiday tale of a young boy's stories that become a reality.
The story of "TRUCE" began on Christmas Eve 1914\, when German troops began decorating the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres\, Belgium\, for Christmas. They placed candles on trees then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols\, most notably Stille Nacht (Silent Night). The British troops in the trenches across from them responded by singing English carols. The two sides shouted Christmas greetings to each other. Soon thereafter\, visits across the "No Man's Land" took place where the soldiers exchanged small gifts of whisky\, jam\, cigars\, chocolate\, sometimes addresses\, and drank together. The artillery in the region fell silent that night. The truce also allowed burial parties a breathing spell to retrieve recently-fallen soldiers and bring them back behind their own lines. Proper burials took place as soldiers from both sides mourned the dead together and paid their respects\, in spite of opposition at higher levels of the military. The truce spread to other areas of the lines\, and there are many stories of soccer matches between the opposing forces. It lasted every where through Christmas night and in some areas\, continued until New Year's Day.
TRUCE OF CAROLS artists include: Adam Flowers\, Benjamin Cohen\, C.A. Jordan\, Cliff Romig\, Dan Galpin\, Eric Coyne\, Erin Lahm\, Jeffrey Taylor\, Norm DeVol\, Robert Snedegar\, and Sascha Joggerst\, the Mission City Opera Orchestra and of course Michael Taylor.
 $15 - $45.

SUMMARY:Peking Acrobats
DESCRIPTION: [Full details at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/4427307/ ] SPECIAL PRESENTATION
“At no time have we seen anything like the Peking Acrobats! Feats of clowning\, dexterity\, grace\, and strength rippled from the stage... one was left waterlogged in wonder.” — Chicago Tribune
Since their debut in 1986\, THE PEKING ACROBATS® have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs\; they are experts at treacherous feats of daring\, trick-cycling\, precision tumbling\, somersaulting\, and gymnastics. They defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion\, flexibility\, and control. They push the envelope of human possibility with astonishing juggling dexterity and incredible balancing feats\, showcasing tremendous skill and ability. They are masters of agility and grace. Accompanied by live musicians skillfully playing traditional Chinese instruments and high-tech special effects that coalesce with the music\, featuring the Acrobats awe-inspiring feats\, an exuberant entertainment event appears before your eyes\, featuring all the excitement and festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival infused with explosive energy!
Many of the magnificent acts we see today\, despite their sophistication\, were performed in ancient times. The history of Chinese acrobatics is rich in tradition and dates back over 2000 years. Throughout the history of China the acrobatic arts flourished\, but in varying degrees. Originally\, court entertainments were formal and monotonous\, quite the opposite of the lively\, folk arts of the people. And\, it did all begin with folk arts: tumbling\, juggling ordinary household objects and balancing. Common games of the people\, such as “Rang Hitting\,” or throwing a small wooden strip the size and shape of a shoe sole at a target\, developed accuracy. Modern day Whip Feats are traced back to this game. Myth and religion also influenced the acrobatic performing arts. The Lion Dance is Buddhist in origin. The lion was seen as the reincarnation of a woman\, who was teased into revealing her true identity. This dance was a symbol of spiritual renewal and was also revered for dispelling bad luck.
Eventually\, however\, the excitement of the acrobat’s amazing feats caught and held the attention of the ruling classes. Acrobatic performers were routinely invited to the court to entertain and impress visiting dignitaries. The varied acts of tumbling\, singing\, dancing and juggling became known as “The Hundred Entertainments” during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). Records of acrobatic acts can be found as early as the Ch'in Dynasty (221 B.C. - 207 B.C.) and Chinese acrobats through the ages have continued to perfect what has become an evolving folk art form. THE PEKING ACROBATS ability to perform the astounding is rooted in centuries of this Chinese history and folk art.
Tradition demands that each generation of acrobats add its own improvements and embellishments. Generations of families have carried on this highly acclaimed and popular tradition. Children begin training at a young age and adhere to a rigorous training schedule which they follow for the rest of their lives. Today the acrobat in China is considered an artist. Because of the unusual and difficult nature of the feats involved\, high honor is conferred upon those skilled enough to become acrobats\; in China\, an acrobat can be considered the Chinese equivalent of an American opera star. It is telling that the Chinese acrobatic tradition just gets stronger\, due to the continued innovation of the artists and the endless enthusiasm from their adoring public.
THE PEKING ACROBATS have been featured on numerous television shows and celebrity-studded TV Specials including THE WAYNE BRADY SHOW\, THAT’S INCREDIBLE\, and ABC’s WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS\, NBC’s RING IN THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAY SPECIAL. They have also appeared on NICKELODEON’S hit show Unfabulous and ELLEN’S REALLY BIG SHOW\, hosted by comedian and talk show host\, Ellen DeGeneres. They set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on FOX’s GUINNESS BOOK PRIMETIME TV show where they astounded audiences with their bravery and dexterity as they balanced six people precariously atop six chairs 21 feet up in the air without safety lines! Internationally\, they have appeared on the ARTISTGALLA\, a benefit show that was filmed live at the Drammens Theatre in Oslo\, Norway. THE PEKING ACROBATS are also making the Hollywood scene on the silver screen as former company members were featured in director Stephen Soderbergh’s hit film Ocean’s 11\, playing with Hollywood’s elite such as Julia Roberts\, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Qin Shaobo\, an alumnus of THE PEKING ACROBATS\, appeared in that film’s two blockbuster sequels\, Ocean’s 12\, and Ocean’s 13. THE PEKING ACROBATS were also the featured performers at the glamorous Hollywood Premiere Party of Ocean’s 13 and they really impressed the star-studded audience with their incredible acrobatic feats!
THE PEKING ACROBATS are also pleased to announce the tremendous success of their first consumer DVD\, initially released on their 2006 North American Tour and filmed on their 2005 North American Tour as a television special for HDNet. This crystal-clear\, thrilling DVD is available for sale to the public at their performances and on the internet at www.iaipresentations.com. The show\, shot in High Definition format\, has aired many times on HDNet television. THE PEKING ACROBATS® are excited and honored to have been selected by HDNet to participate in such technological innovation\, thereby putting this attraction on the cutting edge of modern technology.
THE PEKING ACROBATS continue to perform for Symphony Concert audiences across America. Fans will recall that this milestone in their career was achieved when they made their debut at the Hollywood Bowl. They performed as part of the Hollywood Bowl’s Fireworks Season Finale\, where the company blended their unique brand of acrobatics with the majestic sound of the 100-piece Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. The acrobats infused Bowl audiences with their powerful maneuvers in a multi-cultural\, multi-media spectacular. Between the ‘fireworks’ on stage and the fireworks in the air\, audiences experienced theatrical alchemy at its finest! Concerts such as these have led to many other performances with Symphony Orchestras across the US such as the San Francisco Symphony\, the San Diego Symphony\, the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra\, to name a few.
THE PEKING ACROBATS have returned to the Hollywood Bowl in three separate outing\, most recently performing with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in September of 2008 with Maestro Tom Wilkins conducting. They were thrilled at the opportunity to play this prestigious venue once again. The Hollywood Bowl audiences so warmly received them\, it was like a homecoming celebration for the performers. Clearly\, THE PEKING ACROBATS are now bringing their unique artistry to a completely new audience with the Symphony Concerts and will continue to do so in the future.
THE PEKING ACROBATS have also expanded their reach into the European market. For the past three years\, they have toured throughout the Continent and visited such countries as Italy\, Belgium\, the Netherlands\, and Switzerland. Several of these countries they have traveled to two and three times over\, visiting many exciting cities such as Milan\, Bologna\, and Naples in Italy\, Brugge in Belgium\, as well as Amsterdam and the Haag in the Netherlands.
Their affinity for and popularity with European audiences does not end there\, however\, as in December of 2008\, THE PEKING ACROBATS once again returned to Europe\, this time for their Fourth European Tour. Here\, again\, is another triumph for THE PEKING ACROBATS as they share their incredible talents\, abilities\, and culture with ever-widening audiences\, building their reputation as the finest Chinese acrobatic troupe in the world! On all of these European tours\, the performers have endeared themselves to the European audiences and so it is no surprise that they are asked to return there by popular demand\, again and again. The warmth and appreciation of the European people makes THE PEKING ACROBATS feel right at home and the future holds many more such successful tours for THE PEKING ACROBATS’ much to the delight of their growing numbers of European fans!
A performance by THE PEKING ACROBATS\, therefore\, brings with it the opportunity to view the epitome of a rich and ancient folk art tradition\, highlighted by today’s technology melding the ancient and traditional with the modern wonders of the 21st Century. Therefore\, it is with much pride and pleasure that we embark on the Twenty Second North American Tour of THE PEKING ACROBATS®. So\, sit back\, relax\, and enjoy as our performers reveal to you their mastery of a fascinating and ancient art form\, thousands of years in the making!
As the Seattle Times reports: "Nearly everything THE PEKING ACROBATS did last night was amazing - and stunning\, and breathtaking and WOW!" and Clive Davis of the New York Post sums it up thusly: "THE PEKING ACROBATS [are] pushing the envelope of human possibility…Pure artistry!"
