It is open to everyone\, and we mean everyone\, any age\, any ability – it’s just an opportunity for anyone to display a piece of artwork in our gallery. There is no selection process\, you may submit a maximum of two pieces and all work submitted will be displayed. The only stipulation is that wall mounted work must be no bigger than 600mm x 600mm and be ready to hang (ideally with mirror plates). Small 3D work is also welcome (we may be able to be more flexible on size for 3D work\, please call about pieces over 600mm x 600mm x 600mm).
 Work should be delivered on 6 & 7 November between 10am and 6pm\, and collected between 14-19 Dec 10am to 9pm (Mon-Fri) and 10am–12.30pm (Sat). Come and join us at the private view on Monday 16 November\, 7-9pm.

Photographer\, author and environmental campaigner Mark Edwards' startlingly original presentation explores the issues illustrated in the Hard Rain exhibition\, which is on display in St Martin-in-the-Fields courtyard on the run-up to the Copenhagen climate conference. A moving and unforgettable exploration of the state of our planet at this critical time\, Hard Rain shows that the world has little chance to solve any one of our problems unless we tackle all of them together.
 Brother Clark Berge\, the Minister General of the worldwide Society of St Francis and a Chaplain at the Copenhagen summit\, examines how the faith community is responding to the ecological crisis and highlights the choices that have become fundamental to our future lives. The presentation is followed by questions and discussion.

 JPEG and other in-camera options such as Raw and TIFF: pros and cons of each shooting format. Tips on shooting with RAW capture and image conversion. Storage and memory issues - doing digital photography on the road. Why you should convert your JPEG pics to TIFF format in the computer.
 Assignment: JPEG A JPEG That Has Been JPEG'ed
 Lesson 3: Introduction to Image Enhancing Software
 Adjusting brightness\, contrast\, color balance\, color saturation and sharpness in a few steps.  Introduction to image correction with RAW converter software. And a bonus: a brief introduction to software for making long panoramic images from several photos made for exactly this purpose.
 Assignment: Correct a Technically Poor Image in Under 60 seconds
 Lesson 4: Controlling White Balance and Other Aspects\, In-Camera
 The color of light for the non-physics major. Understanding the white balance options. The easy way to getting the correct white balance. Adjusting the in-camera level for sharpening and color saturation.

 Lesson 5: Composition\, Tripods and Lens Choice

 Lesson 6: Digital Exposure 101
 The primary exposure concepts. Why cameras sometimes make images that are too dark. Using Exposure Compensation\, a simple method for perfect exposures. Learn where to meter from and use Exposure Lock. The part ISO plays in exposure. Tip: Use a Semi Automatic mode while maintaining full control.

 Lesson 7: Creative Control of Apertures (f/stops) and Shutter Speeds
 Learn "depth of field" and motion control with aperture and shutter speed selection\, using the camera's automatic and semi-automatic modes. A primer on depth of field. Prevent blurring from camera shake and subject movement. Great news about exposure when changing f/stops or shutter speeds in certain camera modes.

 Using the camera's histogram (and "loss of highlight detail warning") to evaluate exposure and contrast. The challenges and compromises of night photography.  Fotovision SlideSlam: Next Slideslam will be November 19th
 Every Third Thursday of the Month 7-9pm
 SlideSlam is a FREE monthly event providing aspiring and professional photographers the chance to present their work. SlideSlam is open to all Fotovision members as well as the general public. We aim to be an interactive community so we welcome your ideas on presenters\, format\, potential sponsors\, and future themes!
 Starter food and drinks are provided\, but we encourage you to bring something potluck-style. No alcohol for any students under 21.
 Projects selected for the SlideSlam will be reviewed by Scott McKiernan\, founder of ZUMA Press photo agency\, for potential publication and international media distribution. A free 11x14 printing at Pictopia's professional photo lab will also be raffled off each month.
 SlideSlam Format
 Selected participants have 5 min. to introduce themselves and present 20 images or multimedia work. No more than six people will present at each event. The audience has a chance to ask questions and/or provide feedback for 5 min. after each presentation
 Submission Deadline
 November 17th\, 12 noon
 Submission Guidelines
 Email 20 images centered on a single theme (both ongoing and finished projects accepted)
 File format: JPG under 5mb per image (roughly 8”x10” dimension\, but can be full-frame or panoramic)
 NO masking or borders\, backgrounds\, or other artistic effects are allowed
 Download\, complete and save TITLE slide as firstname_lastname_0.jpg

In just four days\, from Feb. 25-28\, 2010 in Gainesville\, Florida you can learn everything you need to know to make a good living running estate sales from an accredited antique appraiser and licensed auctioneer. Lynn O'Keefe of Gainesville has been running successful estate sales in North Florida since 1990 and she's ready to teach her business secrets.
 "The Business of Estate Sales" will cover start up\, contracts\, advertising\, pricing\, hiring help\, organizing the sale\, handling clients and customers and more. O'Keefe will explain how to avoid mistakes. There will also be expert guest speakers on books\, precious and costume jewelry\, photography\, and pottery. A field trip and some food included. Each participant will receive an easy to follow procedure manual with step by step instructions. Registration is limited to 25 students.
 "I have more business than I can handle\," said O'Keefe. "I get calls from people in Miami\, Orlando\, and all around Florida wanting me to run their estate sales\, but it's too far for me to travel. The people who used to do estate sales in those areas have all retired."
