New Manchester Review presents another FREE ENTRY night of fine new music, ft. John King, Glass Ankle, Greetings & The Wind Up Birds.

John King

John King is one of Manchester's most exciting young jazz guitarists. Coming from a rich musical heritage, he learned the piano from the age of 3, then turned his hand to the cello before finally picking up his first guitar which has since become his first love. He reached the regional finals of the Young Jazz Musician of Year.

His recent show at the Manchester Jazz Festival was a highlight of the week, and it is a real honour to welcome him to Band on the Wall.

"He is a filthy guitar player who we will be hearing lots about in the years to come..." Jools Holland

Glass Ankle

Glass Ankle are a band of proper artistic pretentions. Channelling '13-era' Blur and other lightly experimental pop, their music blends impeccable boy-girl harmonies with oozing acoustic guitar and bass that throbs just on the edge of perception. Their songs abandon the convention of folk and other low volume templates, achieving a distinctively eclectic sound which will undoubtedly appeal to a broad scope of music fans.

Greetings

Greetings take influences from jazz guitar greats such as Django Reinhardt and give the sound a uniquely contemporary and Northern twist. Comprising of songwriter Alex Solo plus a series of Manchester musicians, Greetings create a sound that lies somwhere between The Smiths, Funkadelic, Captain Beefheart and The Fall.

The Wind Up Birds

Hailing from across the Pennines in Leeds, The Wind Up Birds create noisey, energetic indie art-pop that reminds us of the likes of Pulp and, more recently, Art Brut and Billy Ruffian.
