East Lake Union and Portage Bay Open for Public Viewing
(Seattle) The Floating Homes Association is pleased to announce their biennial Floating Homes Tour, on Sunday, Sept. 7th, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 each, and can be purchased in advance through Brown Paper Tickets via www.seattlefloatinghomes.org or by calling 800.838.3006. Any remaining tickets will be for sale the day of the tour, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Terry Pettus Park, at the foot of Newton Street, on Fairview Avenue East (in Seattle’s Eastlake Neighborhood). Numbers will be limited; advance purchase will guarantee viewing.
Tour participants will have the opportunity to experience the houseboat community and discover the special life afloat. They will delight at the views of Lake Union and the Seattle city skyline, from front-end houseboat slips and rooftop decks, to watery porthole views from an underwater basement! The history of the lake will be enjoyed by touring the early 1900s UW Women’s Canoe House, and visitors will appreciate an original Chinook shack where the fisherman would dry their nets on the roof. The imaginative use of space and fun artwork in the homes promise that the views inside will be just as compelling as those outside. And, of course, visitors will enjoy the ever-present access to the water that creates a mood and lifestyle all its own.
Admission price includes transportation via shuttle bus between east Lake Union and Portage Bay. Participants can walk from dock to dock, beginning at any home they wish. Comfortable, slip-on shoes are strongly recommended. The tour will take place rain or shine; free espresso drinks and restroom facilities will be provided.
