It’s the day you’ve all been waiting for - Red Bull Soapbox Race is making its Philadelphia debut this September 6. It won’t be bicyclers, going down “The Wall” in Manayunk, but rather forty teams of daredevils, auto amateurs and who knows – maybe The Mummers – that will race against the clock down Lyceum Ave in an all out battle to the finish line.
This FREE event is a half-mile course that will test not just speed but engineering ability as all carts must be non-motorized and entirely human-powered. Don’t let that fool you though; creativity is just as important as the nuts and bolts.
The first Red Bull Soapbox Race took place in Belgium in 2000, and has since visited over 35 countries including Austria, England, Sweden, Czech Republic and Australia to name a few. It first landed on U.S. soil in St. Louis in 2006 and Philadelphia will be the first pit stop this year!
