Perhaps more than any other twentieth-century painter, Vasily Kandinsky has been closely linked to the history of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. The current selection of Kandinsky's work focuses on the last eleven years of his life, when he lived in Neuilly sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris. In France, the artist introduced "scientific" imagery -- a novel and significant vein of abstraction -- into his work before ultimately indulging in unbridled fantasy and a festival of color.
