Boy Gets Girl

By Rebecca Gilman

Directed by Clint Heyn

What is obsession? And what kind of life can a woman lead when she knows she is being pursued, obsessively and perhaps dangerously, by one man?

When Theresa Bedell goes on an awkward blind date with a friend of a friend, she sees no reason to continue the relationship--but the man, an attractive fellow named Tony, thinks otherwise. While Theresa is at first annoyed yet flattered by his continuing attention, her attitude gradually changes to one of fear and fury when he starts to menace her and those around her.

In brilliantly delineating the kind of terror a woman in full control of her life feels when everything around her suddenly seems to be a threat, Rebecca Gilman probes the dark side of relationships with the rich insight and compelling characterizations that has made her one of today's most exciting young playwrights. Boy Gets Girl was included in Time Magazine's List of the Best Plays and Musicals of the Decade.

The cast includes: Meg Ralph as Theresa Bedell, Paul Jaquith as Tony, Luke A. Terry as Howard Siegel, Charles Wingerter as Mercer Stevens, Cassie Kelso as Harriet, Julie Ellgen Excell as Madeleine Beck and Stuart Goldstein as Les Kennkat.

Rebecca Gilman's plays include The Sweetest Swing in Baseball, The Glory of Living, and the Goodman Theatre world premieres of Spinning Into Butter, Boy Gets Girl, and Blue Surge. She is a three-time Joseph Jefferson Award-winner. The Glory of Living was also named a Time Magazine Top 10 play for 2001, and it won Gilman the George Devine Award and the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright. Gilman was the first American playwright to win an Evening Standard Award. She was awarded the 2008 Harper Lee Award.
