keila cordova dances' Janet 2.0
Sunday September 7, 2008 - Wednesday September 10, 2008 from 9:00pm - 9:00pm
Painted Bride Arts Center
230 Vine Street
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19106 Get Directions
The 2008 Philly Fringe and keila cordova dances [KCD] are pleased to present the world premiere of Janet 2.0 and Philadelphia premiere of The Weather Project on Sunday, September 7 (9PM) and Wednesday September 10 (9PM) at the Painted Bride Art Center in Old City at 230 Vine Street. KCD takes on the distant future of celebrity politics and the field of meteorology in a 40-minute program of dance theatre.

Janet 2.0 jumps to a distant future ruled by immortally youthful celebrities. A meteor strikes planet earth, putting the president in a coma. Her replacement is a clone, Janet 2.0. Relentless choreography, homemade songs, and slippery text frame a fractured future where celebrity rules over reason.

What if the gestures of your favorite local weather reporter had something more to tell you than whether or not rain was in the forecast for tomorrow? THE WEATHER PROJECT asks what if meteorologists are modern day shamans, descendants of a long history of truth-tellers and soothsayers? Choreographer Keila Cordova explains that she wanted to explore the idea that the movement of weather reporters could be a language in and of itself, independent of the blue screen, the maps and the text of the report itself.
