Friday September 5, 2008 - Friday September 19, 2008 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Woodrow Wilson Plaza
1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, District of Columbia 20001 Get Directions
Presented by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, DC Grooves adds a breathtaking vigor to Washington's “Indian Summer,” as the city’s most spectacular free evening outdoor concert series featuring three Fridays of incredible performances from world renowned and local artists.

Headlining this year’s series are the legendary multi-platinum artists Ashford and Simpson, the kings of “old school” funk and soul, the Commodores, and one of the most gifted artists of our time “Latin sensation” Jon Secada. The Arts Commission invites all to come out and enjoy three spectacular evenings Friday, September 5, 12 and 19 from 7pm to 9pm at the Woodrow Wilson Plaza at the Ronald Regan Building and International Trade Center.

On September 5 iconic musical husband and wife team Ashford and Simpson inaugurates DC Grooves 2008 with an electrifying performance, taking the audience down memory lane with songs like “Solid,” “Ain't No Mountain High Enough,” and “Closest to Love.”

The following week, on September 12 DC Grooves gets ready for a “Change” and watch’s “Love Come Down” as dance music diva Evelyn Champagne King opens for the Commodores and they prepare to funk up the stage with songs like “Brick House,” “Nightshift” and “Easy.”

And finally, on September 19 DC Grooves culminates, with a Hispanic Heritage Month special performance featuring Latin superstar Jon Secada. Sit back and be wooed by Secada’s silky smooth voice as he performs pop favorites such as “Get On Your Feet” ,“Just Another Day,” and “Angel.”

All concerts will open with District artists to be announced. DC Grooves is a great way to spend the summer evenings in Downtown Washington. “The shows are intergenerational and provide DC residents a great opportunity to have a fantastic time,” said Interim Arts Commission Director Lionell Thomas. “We invite all of our residents and visitors to take part in this World Class Cultural Experience.”

For more information on DC Grooves, contact the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) at 202.724.5613 or visit www.dcarts.dc.gov. The DCCAH, an agency of the District of Columbia Government, under Mayor Adrian M. Fenty presents the concerts with support from the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The concerts are produced by DESHO Productions.
