London Geek Nights: Game Programming
Friday November 21, 2008 from 6:00pm - 10:00pm
ThoughtWorks UK Office
Berkshire House, 168-173 High Holborn
London, United Kingdom, England WC1V 7AA Get Directions
This is a Geek Night dedicated to developing games. The core of the evening is going to revolve around the XNA platform.

We are also hoping to have talks on game development with Java, open source projects on the Cell/PS3 and also a talk by Iain Simons the author of Inside Game Design.

Keep an eye on the Wiki page for definite details as they emerge and I'll try and post here too.

One thing to say is that we would encourage anyone with something to say or show to just get up and share it.

If you want to find collaborators, start projects or just rant about creating games. Please feel free.

If you have a demo to show then let us know on the night and we will help get you set up with the projector.

The final lineup of talks will be:

Introduction to XNA
What went wrong? Issues from games development
The Dichotomy of Open Source and Games Development

Lightning Talks still welcomed.

Pizza expected 6:30pm, full talks kick off at 7pm

Say you are coming to guarantee food.

I'll be there. Flying back from Sweden early specially to attend.

If there's any interest I'd love to do a lightning talk about OpenGL from Python, if there's any interest. With some demos. I would keep it short though because I know some attendees have seen much of the content before, at PyCon, etc.

I definitely would be interested. It would also cool if someone could introduce PyGame in five minutes or less.

Hey people,

If anyone's still reading this : Thanks for the Game Dev night, I really enjoyed all of the talks and meeting everyone.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get to talk with everyone present. If there's anyone who was there has any interest in chatting some more about creating a hobbyist game, especially a 2D rigid-body physics style game, then I'd love to chit-chat.

I'm not sure if 'upcoming' exposes my email address, it's below.

Cheers,

Jonathan
