Every year on December 21 there is an amazing parade of lights and music and silliness through Kensington Market followed by a celebration of fire in Bellevue Park
The best part is participating in the parade of light and music:
bring something that makes light - candle, lantern, glow stick
bring something that makes noise - drum, rattle or empty water bottle filled with dry rice
dress warmly - heavy socks, gloves and hat (some even decorate their hats with leaves or ribbons)
It is an amazing start of the holiday season and we've gone for years...the flier says - "Ignite the Longest, Darkest Night! - Join this spectacular glowing procession of giant puppets, stilt walkers, musicians, fire breathers and revellers through Kensington Market's narrow streets. Celebrate many traditions of the Winter solstice. Dance to the drums of many nations."
