The museum's Asian collection comprises works from China, Japan, Korea and South Asia. In 1916, the museum began to collect ancient Chinese bronzes, which has formed the foundation for one of the most important collections of such work in North America. Since that time, the Chinese holdings have continued to grow through the acquisition of magnificent examples of early Buddhist sculpture, Chinese calligraphy and painting, and a broad range of ceramics and decorative arts, and most recently with the addition of the Robert E. Kresko Collection of later Chinese bronzes.
