Multi-Everything: Multi-touch and the NUI Paradigm
Multi-touch is certainly one of the most talked-about interaction paradigms of the past two years, but even single-touch screens and operating systems are starting to include touch, gestures, and more to push beyond just the mouse and keyboard. This is the path towards the natural user interface, or NUI, which could be a major shift in interface design. But what’s all this good for? Who benefits? And in what contexts does it make sense? Darren David and Nathan Moody, the principals of Stimulant, will talk about how they got into this field, how they design and develop such experiences, and share their learnings from touchwalls, see-through touchscreens, surface computing, mobile experiences, and much more.

Presenters
Nathan Moody is the Design Director of Stimulant. His incredibly broad creative career spans almost every digital medium, most content delivery platforms, and the majority major of software technologies over nearly two decades. Nathan has designed award-winning interfaces, interactions, visuals, motion and sound for such clients as Adobe, Charles Schwab, General Motors, General Electric, Leapfrog, Microsoft, Oracle, The North Face, Timberland and Reebok. He’s been lucky enough to collaborate with Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Fluid, IDEO, John Maeda, l.inc design, Tolleson Design, Obscura Digital, and more. Nathan is a published magazine and book author and editor, a frequent awards judge, and noted speaker on digital creativity.

Darren David is the President and Technical Director of Stimulant. With over 13 years in the industry, Darren is an award-winning pioneer in the field of RIA development. Darren’s list of firsts includes leading development for the first Flash-based online SAT preparation course, developing the first WPF-based application to be publicly deployed on Windows Vista, and engineering the UI for the world’s largest multi-touch wall. His interests and experiences cover a vast range of creative and technical ground, enabling him to bring innovative and informed solutions to clients such as Microsoft, General Motors, Hewlett-Packard, The North Face, Reebok and JanSport. Darren regularly presents at industry conferences, and has served on advisory boards at both Adobe and Microsoft.

Comments
I will be there … hunting in the hiring salon with resume for an interaction / user interface design position. (My company downsized to half this Friday due to financial shift & the owner would like to recommend me. — It's quite sad.)

The presentation was very interesting & thought provoking. (it also helps validate why I felt the need for a semester in interior design long ago— feeling better about that one.)

To the gents from Stimulant — a warm thank you for sharing. Your time is much appreciated.
