From her picture, it's hard to imagine this woman at 16, living on the streets of Detroit after losing her parents and bouncing between foster homes. But there is no denying her depth and experience when she sings. She found her passion one night in a club, listening to Otis Rush. Janiva Magness has a powerful voice and commanding presence, having been nominated for the BB King Entertainer of the Year Award at the 2008 Blues Music Awards and receiving the distinction of Best Contemporary Female Artist at the 2006 and 2007 Blues Music Awards.
