Hawthorne’s Haunting Classic Comes Alive
(Derry, NH) – An ensemble of gifted actors bring to life Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel, The House of the Seven Gables, which tells of mysterious deaths, hidden documents, ghosts of those long dead and lovers from opposite sides of a centuries-old curse surround a secret holding the key to a family's salvation.
David Preece’s adaptation of The House of the Seven Gables remains true to Hawthorne's novel of haunting tragedy and romance. In this dark, Gothic love story, Hawthorne expresses the belief that new hope and promise can supersede the grim despair of the past.
D. Seth Abbott will direct this haunting play for the award winning Music and Drama Company, now celebrating their 25th Season. Playwright David Preece, who is based in New Hampshire, has seen his plays performed throughout the country. In 2007, his play about Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, Tender, won the New Hampshire Theatre Award for Outstanding New Play by a Professional Theatre and was nominated for Best Play by the LA Critics and his play, Charles Dickens’ Ghost Stories won seven 2008 New Hampshire Theatre Awards, including Best Play. The award-winning set designer Jim Webber will make the famous house come alive on stage.
The play will be performed October 23, 24, and 25, 2008 at 8:00 PM at Adams Memorial Opera House, 29 West Broadway in Derry, New Hampshire. There will be Saturday Matinee on October 25 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available by calling 432-5578 Ext. 3 or before each performance.
