Organizer: Acton Institute and Liberty Fund, Inc. The purpose of this conference is to examine the connections between economic transactions and virtue. Participants will explore the degree to which the conditions and attributes of market economies are attributable to virtue in its classical and modern formulations. In a mixture of lectures and Socratic discussion, we will examine works such as Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, Smith’s The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Novak’s The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism, and others. Attendance is by invitation only. This is the first conference in the series “Liberty and Markets: A Co-sponsored conference by the Acton Institute and Liberty Fund, Inc.”
