While working on a photographic project in Havana, Cuba, Philadelphia-area photographer Susan S. Bank stumbled upon a group of tobacco farmers who had never been photographed before, who had been growing their own food, getting by without electricity and telephone, and living a life firmly anchored in family, neighbors, their animals, and love of the valley where they live. Using black and white film and a 35mm camera, Bank produced a deeply poetic body of work capturing the lives of these people.
