Our annual Severe Weather
Training with the National Weather
Service will be Monday, January
29th, 2007 at 7 PM, Olathe Fire
Dept. Headquarters, 1225 S Hamilton
Circle, Olathe.
The purpose of this class is to
provide participants with (1) intermediate
to advanced severe weather
development training, and (2) the
means to enhance your own safety
as well as the public served.
Qualifications:
1) Member of a local emergency
service organization,
2) A currently licensed amateur
radio operator willing to participate
with Johnson County Emergency
Communication Services,
Inc. as a service to Johnson
County Emergency Management,
3) CERT Team Member, or
4) Other interested parties.
Specific objectives:
• Define specific severe weather terminology,
• Identify significant atmospheric severe
weather clues as presented in visual
format.
• Identify a variety of tornado look-alikes and
state the key to determining the
difference,
• List reporting criteria for severe weather,
• Describe safety factors to consider when
seeking shelter for a tornado,
• Describe considerations relating to lightning
safety.
