Iowa Brain Drain Roundtable Luncheon
Tuesday December 9, 2008 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Impromptu Studio
300 SW 5th Street, Suite 220
Des Moines, Iowa 50309 Get Directions
There was a great online discussion taking place on Twiter about how young entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists, Micro-VCs, the Generation Iowa Commission, young politicians and legislators can work together to really address the brain drain by harnessing small businesses and startups.

I organized this so we could take the online conversation to those we were talking about. To that end, I believe a roundtable is the best way to have this discussion.

Our roundtable will include:
Matt Kinley of Equity Dynamics
Representative from the Technology Association of Iowa
Local Entrepreneurs

Some food for thought:

Agenda Topics:
Is salary really the cause?
Are young entrepreneurs the answer?
How can we connect young entrepreneurs with resources?
Million dollar VC funding vs. micro VC funding
Would leveraging lobbyists and younger elected officials offer a solution to enacting (immediate) change?
If so, what kind?

Food will be provided.

Would you be interested in having a member of the Generation Iowa commission attend the roundtable?

Who is going to head this up, and do we have any type of preliminary agenda set? If it's only going to be an hour, we better have get that figured out beforehand.

@kly3 Daniel Shipton will lead the discussion. If you have a question that you want answered leave a comment and we will try to work it in.
@clairecelsi We would love to have a member from Generation Iowa attend. We want to bring fresh perspective to the conversation they started however.

Sound like @RuchNigut has this covered from our firm and an attorney's perspective. I look forward to the update. This is a significant issue.

Nice work Dan. Good group; thoughtful comments. Those present put the lie to the brain drain; smart, good people networking the old-fashioned way. Now let's expand the new-fashioned way.
