I hope there will be plenty of vegan food. Remember the consumption of vegan food ALWAY exceeds the number of vegans. This is simple math. All of the vegans will only eat the vegan food plus many non vegans. Vegans normally encourage non vegans to eat vegan food as they would like everyone to have this be their normal diet, but it's so much better when there is enough for everyone.

Similar math rules apply to other restricted diets.

BarCampPortland is BYOL (Bring Your Own Lanyard) event. We'll have badges, but we'd like to have you re-use a lanyard from a previous event. Note: The lanyard is the rope to hold your badge around your neck.

We'll plan the schedule on Friday night, so start thinking about those session ideas now!

Teknotus - it helps when you have some vegans on the organizing team *ahem*. We'll have plenty of vegan options.

I am looking forward to doing a talk on the Digital TV transition and opportunities to learn something about TV broadcast technology and help folks in the community. I think Bart Massey may be joining me in maybe doing a demonstration of some neat, cheap, and easy antenna projects as well.

Here's a link to the Google Tech Talk I did last month on the subject..

The DTV Transition and the Tech-Savy Volunteer

Abstract:
Broadcast television's analog to digital DTV transition is a technology event touching every American household. On June 12, full power TV stations around the nation will cease over the air transmission of analog television and transmit only digital. Analog TV sets in low-income, non-English speaker, disabled and other households receiving TV over the air will no longer function unless steps are taken to maintain reception after the transition, for example by using a digital converter device. Technical and logistical challenges associated with the DTV transition are expected to impact these households hardest. James Miller, Attorney Advisor at the FCC, will discuss these issues and how this unprecedented technical change offers tech-savvy volunteers an opportunity to share expertise and make a difference to people in need, while learning more about the wireless engineering aspects of broadcast TV.
