Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) influenced Charles Darwin (1809-1882) to become a naturalist, and both explored the natural history of South America in great detail. Darwin explored further on the Beagle and brought back many plants, animals, fossils, and minerals to England for research. Humboldt made pioneering studies in several scientific fields and brought thousands of plant specimens back to Europe. This exhibit explains their findings and more.
