“indwelling: Living In A Female Body”

The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute, a clinical training resource for the psychoanalytic community, the feminist community, and the public, will celebrate its 25th Anniversary during Women’s History Month with the largest gathering of women of all ages, sizes and cultures this spring in New York City to participate in “INDWELLING: Living in a Female Body,” from Friday, March 23 through Sunday, March 25, 2007 in The Great Hall at The Cooper Union, located at 7 East 7th Street at Third Avenue (The Foundation Building).

The weekend of programs will explore the past, present, and future of women’s struggle to find acceptance of their bodies, especially when living in a culture that promotes powerful images of the “ideal female form:”

Friday, March 23, 2007 from 6-8 pm:
·Noted photographer Joyce Tenneson, will judge a photography exhibition where female photographers depict what it is like to live in a female body. Photography exhibited will also be available for purchase.

Saturday, March 24, 2007 from 12-6pm:
·Award-winning author of “The Vagina Monologues” Eve Ensler will be honored for her contributions to women’s lives and will present on a variety of topics, including the fight against domestic violence.
·A viewing and discussion of two short films: “I Had An Abortion” by Gillian Aldrich and Jennifer Baumgardner and “A Girl Like Me” by Kiri Davis.
·“Speak Out,” a time-honored traditional forum for large numbers of women to find their individual voice and share their experiences.
·Performances by feminist and humorist Kate Clinton and the women’s rights activist band BETTY.

Sunday, March 25, 2007 from 1-3 pm:
·A free gallery talk by photographer and Cooper Union School of Art Professor Margaret Morton.

Tickets for Friday & Saturday are $25; Sunday tickets are free. Sponsor subsidized tickets are available. Event proceeds will go to supporting free metal health services for domestic violence survivors.
