Hi everyone,

We'll be a little calmer and traditional than the last couple of weeks (but not much!) as we're heading back to our friends at Fleishman Hillard (thanks Hayley & Ben) for our monthly discussion group.

This month's session will be led by Ronna Porter, talking about the use of sound and music in marketing. Ronna wrote this on the SMC blog last week:

"We live in audio-visual age. But so far, we've concentrated most attention on video and visual content, and gained only limited benefits in terms of communication, community and distinctiveness from sound and music when it comes to social media. Yes, podcasting is an audio medium, but how many podcasts out there are truly exploiting sound? Research shows that although 83% of all commercial communication is visual, there is a 65% chance that our mood will change when we hear a new sound (see http://www.brandsense.com). I believe we haven't even scratched the surface in integrating great sound that supports rather than gets in the way of good communication."

If you haven't done so already, please do register at

If you can't make it, do keep an eye on the SMC blog [1] for a report and podcast and look out for details on the wiki [2] of our first videobloggers Thursday Night is Social Media Night, next week on the 23rd.
