Description:
San Francisco and Oakland have been ranked by SustainLane as two of the nation's more sustainable cities in a new book, How Green is Your City? The SustainLane US City Rankings. Author Warren Karlenzig of SustainLane will moderate a panel discussing how the largest 50 cities in the nation were ranked using a peer-reviewed study in 15 categories, ranging from green buildings, sustainability management and climate change policy to air quality and local food indicators.

Why is the concept of urban sustainability so vital to the economy, the environment and people's lives? How can Bay Area cities lead in the development of everything from cleantech incubators to "green collar" jobs and education?

Joining Warren will be Jared Blumenfeld, Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment and Ian Kim of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland. Said the Washington Post, "Surveys such as SustainLane's go a long way in terms of helping the nation understand what constitutes a better and more sustainable urban environment."
