Celtic Film Series - The Crying Game
Thursday April 12, 2007 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Williamsburg Library Theatre
515 Scotland Street
Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 Get Directions
One of the most talked about films of the 1990s, The Crying Game, is also the final Irish film in this seasons Celtic Film Series. The 1992, R-rated film will be presented at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. The program is free of charge and reservations are not needed. Call (757) 259-4070, or visit www.wrl.org for more information. William and Mary Professor Emeritus of English, Jack Willis, will introduce the film.

The Crying Game is based on the classic Irish short story, "A Guest of the Nation," by Frank O'Connor, in which IRA men in the 1920s make the mistake of becoming friendly with the man they will have to kill. But the film contains decidedly modern twists that will keep you guessing throughout. It was nominated for five Oscars - including Best Picture, and won for writer-director Neil Jordans screenplay.

The Library presents the Celtic Film Series in cooperation with the local chapters of the St. Andrew Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The series explores the history, drama and quirky humor of films made in or about Scotland and Ireland.
