The First Friday series continues this Friday, February 6 with music by singer-songwriter Lauren Houston from northern Kentucky and readings by poets Erik Reece and Bianca Spriggs.
Lauren Houston’s multi-genre blend naturally comes through in her Americana song writing style. Houston's song subjects are personal, deep and thought provoking. Her sound is an expressive, eloquent portrayal of life through music. She feels her broad personal interest in music has helped her create a mix of folk, country, bluegrass, pop, blues and soul. Houston says, “I never wanted to be nailed down to one specific genre. I like the fact that I am all across the board.”
Erik Reece is an award-winning environmental activist who wrote Lost Mountain, a study of mountain top removal in eastern Kentucky and editor of an anthology of nature poetry, Field Notes, published by the University Press of Kentucky.
Bianca Spriggs - artist, educator and activist - lives in Lexington and is a visiting writer at Transylvania University. A member of the Affrilachian Poets group, her poems are found in a number of anthologies and journals. She is a graduate of Transylvania University.
There is a cover charge of $10 ($5 for students) to support the artists. The performance begins at 7 pm at the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe, 235 W Broadway St, Frankfort, KY 40601.
