Thursday Afternoon Film Series - The Incredible Shrinking Man
Thursday May 17, 2007 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Williamsburg Library Theatre
515 Scotland Street
Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 Get Directions
May is the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. To commemorate the occasion the Thursday Afternoon Film Series will flashback 50 years to Jamestowns 350th anniversary and show films that debuted in 1957. The movies will be screened in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, at 2 p.m. every Thursday throughout the month. They are free of charge and tickets or reservations are not required. Call the Adult Services Department at (757) 259-4050 for more information.

May 17 The Incredible Shrinking Man
1957 was a banner year for radiation-enlarged critters with big bugs featured in several films such as The Deadly Mantis, The Black Scorpion and Beginning of the End. This science fiction classic went the other way with a man (Grant Williams) rapidly shrinking in size after being exposed to a radioactive mist. His life soon becomes a fight for survival against sundry household creatures much larger than himself. This well-made film has good special effects for the time period and handles the subject matter in an earnest, non-sensational manner.
