May 31 Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
The dominant female image of 50s Hollywood was the buxom, bleached-blonde bombshell as epitomized by Marilyn Monroe. Jayne Mansfield was the most prominent of the many Monroe wannabes and this film perfectly displays her sexy, comedic charms. Mansfield plays a famous actress who is being courted by a hapless advertising executive (Tony Randall) to promote Stay-Put lipstick. She agrees as long as he pretends to be her loverdoll in a hare-brained scheme to make her former boyfriend jealous. This broad comedy is directed by Frank Tashlin and costars Joan Blondell, Betsy Drake and Mansfields future husband, bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay.
