Hum To Tere Aashiq Hai - Play
Saturday February 21, 2009 at 4:00pm
Vishnudas Bhave Hall
Opp. Bus Depot , Vashi
Mumbai, Maharashtra Get Directions
This modest Marathi comedy is woven around the spectrum of activities ranging from courtship to marriage. What makes it interesting is that the sutradhar (narrator) of the play makes telling observations of a couple’s tryst with the business of love. He is there omnipresent, full of jokes that run through the gamut of emotions that a young couple goes through. The couple itself symbolizes love that is carefree of the baggage of religion and caste. The heroine is a Muslim while the hero is a Hindu. Popular reviews of the play applaud the performance of the cast and directorial skills. It seems that even the tense moments in the play are managed without the tedium of melodrama. Film songs and dances have paved their way into the territory of commercial theatre and often the effect is hackneyed if not disdainful. While Hum To Tere Aashiq Hai uses filmi music, it seems to have intelligently weaved it in with appropriate moments in the play at Vishnudas Bhave Hall. Contact: 27669100 / 27662320.
