After Kristin Hersh's half a dozen brilliant solo albums, says Interview, "years of innovating in her direct, intense, riff-driven way have earned ex-Throwing Muse Hersh goddess status." Even during her years with alternative rock's Throwing Muses, Kristin Hersh was a songwriter at heart. Just listen to her sing about "a man made of butterfat/Careening around on a Sno-Cat" in the leadoff song on her album "The Grotto." Hersh comes to town with a new album, "Learn to Sing Like a Star," that features unusual violin and cello textures. This evening's special guest is Troy Campbell, who has been a restless innovator as well going all the way back to his years with the pioneering Texas Americana band the Loose Diamonds.
