Imagine a 3-mile-long elevated linear park running through the heart of Chicago, connecting neighborhoods, the river, and the city's great park system. The Bloomingdale railroad viaduct, located on Chicago's northwest side, presents a unique opportunity for the creation of such a greenway. For nearly 100 years, the Bloomingdale has served as a vibrant freight line, but today a three-mile stretch of the line lies unused. "Envisioning the Bloomingdale" broadens the conversation to imagine this piece of our industrial inheritance as Chicago's first elevated, linear park.
"Envisioning the Bloomingdale" is an exhibition of conceptual design proposals by architects, landscape architects, designers, students, and kids from Chicago.
Friday's opening reception is free and open to the public.
