Pride Parade

Saturday, July 21, 11:00am

Parade route: Rainbow Mile - University Ave between Normal St. and 6th down to Ivy Lane.

When San Diego's first Pride march took place 32 years ago down Broadway, its participants could not have imagined traversing down a mile-long parade route lined with 150,000 applauding spectators. The handfuls of brave activists who marched back then recall being afraid of losing thier jobs or becoming ostracized in a climate that incited fear and hatred from those witnessing the event from the sidelines.

The San Diego LGBT Pride parade has come a very long way since the 1970s. It now embodies more than 200 floats and contingents from myriad sectors of the LGBT community, including our straight supporters, local politicians and community churches and businesses. It is an enormous spectale not to be missed!

With over 200 floats and contingents the Parade is the largest civic event in San Diego.

City Commissioner - Nicole Murray-Ramirez ,and Coco LaChine and performer par excellence, and the only drag queen with a self-named store in the world Babette Schwartz, will once again hold emcee duties at two parade-reviewing stands.

Reviewing stantds will be located at the Parade step off University and Normal St and, University at Vermont and at University at 10th. Additional reviewing stands will be at 6th Ave and Robinson and 6th Ave and Pennsylvania. ASL interpretation will be provided at the University Ave and Normal reviewing stand. An area adjacent to the Normal Stree reviewing stand will be reserved for spectators with special needs. Additionally, water and festival tickets can be purchased along the parade route.

Stop by Yahoo!'s booth at SD Pride. We will be in Balboa Park on Saturday and Sunday, for our second consecutive year. Snap a keepsake photo in our photo booth - we'll upload it to Flickr, and donate $1 for each photo to the Point Foundation. You can also visit our site right now and upload photos to help us donate money to this wonderful LGBT nonprofit.
