The very first Barcamp in Cambridge is taking place on August 24th. All are invited to join us at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute for a day of discussions, demos, and interaction focused on science and technology.
BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Participants should come ready to talk about something awesome.
Breakfast at 8.30am with talks starting at 9.30am. Aim to wrap up by about 5.30pm.
There is space for around 50 delegates. Two rooms are available, both have data projectors, white boards and flip pads.
If those planning to attend could let me know their full names, I'll make sure that security are expecting you.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided, courtesy of the Wellcome Trust.
More details, including proposed sessions and timings, can be found on the Barcamb wiki.
How strict is the "topics at the interface between science and technology" requirement? The two topics on the wiki so far don't seem to be very science-related; is there scope for more 'traditional' BarCamp sessions?
Excellent - I'm interested in rapid development methods and their application in scientific computing. That and the semantic web - you've got to love the semantic web.
Folks should feel free to post their interests or talk proposals here or on the wiki.
BarCamb is drawing near, and we're nearing capacity! A couple of things:
I'll be sending out a link to everyone on the attending list shortly to confirm that they still plan to come, and to collect their contact details.
I'll be closing the guest list when it hits 50 attendees - so if you can long longer make it, or if anyone is watching and still wants to come: update your choice soon.
The attendee list is looking first rate, as are some of the talks already listed on the wiki. If you have something in mind, feel free to add it.
Very much looking forward to meeting you all, and to an excellent Friday.
I sent out an email to everyone signed up as attending the other day with more details on how to get here and what to do when you arrive. If you haven't received this, please do let me know by dropping me a note, or an email to: matt.wood at sanger.ac.uk.
