"Progress is always an exchange. We gain something, we give something else up. I'm interested in looking at some of what we are losing."--Zoe Leonard

Former Wexner Center residency artist Zoe Leonard produced this poignant body of images--nearly 400--using a Rolleiflex camera on walks through New York and other cities.

The gallery walls are filled with images of hodge-podge displays and hand-lettered signs in worn storefronts, far from the glistening allure of upscale shopping malls or the digitally manipulated glamour of mail-order or Internet shopping. Installed in sequences of grids, the images of Analogue document a kind of urban texture that is fast disappearing beneath the tide of multinational homogeneity. Leonard is participating in Documenta 12, the prestigious international exhibition in Kassel, Germany, this summer. She is also showing Analogue, which was developed as her residency project, there.

Organized by the Wexner Center and curated by former Chief Curator of Exhibitions Helen Molesworth. The exhibition catalogue takes the form of a kind of artist's book, with an extensive selection of images from the project and a text composed by Leonard herself from selected quotes on photography, cities, and change.
