The Perseid Meteor Shower: A Live Presentation by Planetarium Director, Jon Elver
Friday August 10, 2007 - Wednesday December 31, 1969 at 7:00pm
IMAX - Louisiana Art & Science Museum
100 River Rd S
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802 Get Directions
At this time every year in its orbit around the sun, the earth passes through the leftover debris of a comet. The result is a spectacular display of some 100 or more meteors, or shooting stars, per hour! In this live presentation, planetarium director Jon Elvert explores why the Perseids are the year's major meteor shower, what comets are and where they come from, and what meteorites and asteroids are. A tour of the season's night sky, identifying constellations, planets, and deep-sky objects, is included.
