Chris Abani and Gayle Brandeis and Karen Harryman read from their latest works.

Diesel, A Bookstore and Code Pink invite you to join us for “Art & Activism: Writers on Politics Now 2” featuring three local writers:

Chris Abani is a Nigerian poet and novelist an the author of The Virgin of Flames, Becoming Abigail , and GraceLand (winner of the 2005 PEN/Hemingway Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award).

Gayle Brandeis is the author of Self Storage, Book of Dead Birds and Fruit Flesh. She is the winner of the Barbara Kingsolver created Bellwether Prize. The Bellwether Prize is unique; no other major North American endowment or prize for the arts specifically seeks to support a literature of social responsibility.

Karen Harryman first collection of poetry, Auto Mechanic’s Daughter, has just been published. She grew up in Kentucky and currently teaches English and Creative Writing at Yula, an orthodox Jewish high school in Los Angeles.

Please join us for what is sure to be an inspiring and challenging night featuring independent voices.
