Jackie Robinson and Civil Rights

Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey’s "noble experiment" to integrate major league baseball in 1947 reverberated far beyond the sports world. It foreshadowed the mass civil rights movement of the 1950s, the Brown v. Board of Education decision, and the fall of legalized segregation. Long Island University history professor Joseph Dorinson moderates a panel that includes Lee Lowenfish, historian and journalist; William C. Rhoden, New York Times sports columnist; and Bob McGee, award-winning sports writer. Presented in conjunction with The Glory Days: New York Baseball 1947-1957. Reservations required. $
