Large Format Photography Workshop
Saturday July 11, 2009 - Sunday July 12, 2009
Project Basho
1305 Germantown Ave.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19122 Get Directions
In this hands-on two day workshop, students will work with large and ultra-large format cameras to experience the making of large negatives and learn the advantages of different formats. A variety of format sizes including 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, and 7x17 will be offered for students to try out different sizes of cameras and create negatives with them. Working with such large cameras is quite a different experience for a photographer, and there are both technical and aesthetic implications to it.

In the darkroom, we will cover different ways to process these large format negatives and by the end of the workshop, students will produce silver contact prints from some of the negatives made during the workshop. We will also discuss issues pertaining to using these cameras in the contemporary time including the choice of films, transportation of equipment, storage, and other important aspects.

Schedule:

One-weekend workshop:
Saturday & Sunday, 9 am - 5 pm
July 11 & 12
