Featuring 40 dazzling quilts designed by artist Sonie Joi Ruffin, this exhibit celebrates the visual majesty of African-American quilts and also explores the African-American social experience in the Historic 12th and 18th & Vine Districts - and jazz. Based on two of Ruffin's books, 'Soulful Art of African-American Quilts' and 'Opening Day,' the exhibit also features unique memories and short pieces written by Sonie, a master storyteller. Ruffin's quilts draw from a centuries-old wellspring that explores humanity the crux of the African-American experience. She incorporates the boldness of African print fabrics with American print fabrics to create striking designs, inviting viewers to engage in mental and spiritual conversations with her artwork.
