BoarsHead Theater is thrilled to bring Mary Martello back to Michigan to perform her entertaining one-woman cabaret show “The Reluctant Optimist” this spring. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on June 5 and 6 with a 2 p.m. performance on June 7. Tickets are $25.
Are you a reluctant optimist? Can optimism change the world? Join Martello as she explores these questions through the second definition of optimism as it appears in Webster’s unabridged dictionary with the music of well-known and not-so-well-known composers, stories of her life, your life and life in general.
You only have three chances to see this delightful show that recently played to sold out audiences in Philadelphia.
Martello began her performing career at age seven, singing a duet with Florence Henderson in an Oldsmobile Christmas special hosted by Johnny Carson. A Philadelphia actor for the past 10 years, Martello trained as an actor at BoarsHead Theater with Richard Thomsen and John Peakes. She was seen here in “Hello Dolly,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” “Man of La Mancha,” “Oh Coward,” “Hot L Baltimore,” as well as many new plays and musicals. While in Michigan, Martello was a regular on “Culver’s Clubhouse” for two years on WKAR.
Martello has been privileged to work with many fine directors, designers and actors at theaters including Arden Theatre, The Prince Theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, Wilma Theatre, and 1812 Productions. She has 10 Barrymore nominations, winning awards for “Triumph of Love,” “Café Puttanesca” and “Sweeney Todd.”
John Dale Smith will accompany Martello on the piano.
