Description

Photovoltaic Design for Engineers & Designers: A 3-Day Course on Producing PV Design Documents

This is an intensive solar workshop for design professionals on the specific skills needed to produce high quality feasibility reports, drawings and specifications that are currently in high demand by architectural design teams, engineering firms, developers, and discerning property owners. This class will refine your skills and help you confidently negotiate through design development, stringent building dept & DSA reviews, the bidding process, and construction administration.

Using these skills, High Sun Engineering has helped produce hundreds of PV systems with high performance and high aesthetic quality while avoiding common pitfalls and saving clients thousand or even millions of dollars on each project.

Learn How To Assess solar site conditions Determine optimal PV technology options Perform PV sizing calculations and create computer models Produce accurate PV feasibility reports Create professional PV construction drawings and specs that ensure smooth approval by building officials, quality installations, & maximum PV energy production Coordinate with architectural design teams Manage PV construction projects including bidding, installation oversight, and verification of system performance

Who Should Attend Electrical & mechanical engineers & designers wishing to gain valuable solar design skills Contractor's engineers & designers seeking a competitive edge Industry professionals wanting insight on the design process Engineering students & graduates wanting to start off in the solar industry & make a positive impact on the future of energy

You also get course materials including: Workbook with course topics, quick references & calculation tools CD-R with pdf drawing sets of various sample project types to use as reference for your future designs Full-size drawing set for in-depth study during class

Instructors Jack West, Photovoltaic Systems Engineer, has been designing PV systems for 17 years and is in high demand by many of the Bay Area's top architects & developers. Christina Manansala, Principal Engineer, is a recognized expert in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Co-founded by the instructors, High Sun Engineering is the first highly successful PV systems engineering firm in CA and has been on the winning teams of dozens of awards for excellent & sustainable design.

This is not a hands-on class for installers or homeowners, but is geared towards professionals and is a strong complement to the many basic PV classes available.

Some quotes from our students:

"This
is the best investment and time I've made since attending college (33
yrs ago).  Instructors clearly are highly competent and present an
excellent product...Also,  material is presented in a manner that
instills excitement and student attention.  I am really happy with the
product."  J. Lovett, BSEE, 2008

"Thank
you for an outstanding presentation of the course.  I now have a better
understanding of the PV system and different equipment required for
designing the system."  Participant 2008

"This course has been a great learning experience.  The layout and order of topics is well thought out."  Participant 2008.

"Excellent course!"  "Great class" - Multiple Participants, 2007 & 2008.

"Thank
you for holding this timely workshop.  Your integrity shines though and
it's great to see your enthusiasm and knowledge of the industry."

Participant 2007

"I recently realized I was a ways away from knowing everything I needed to know about designing commercial solar systems in California.
With this revelation in mind, I took Jack and Christina's workshop on
designing solar systems.  I cannot recommend this course highly
enough.  There is tremendous demand for solar system design--and not
very many pv system designers available--so design standards are not as
rigorous as I would like...  Jack and Christina were a pleasure to
learn from, and the class was an ecumenical mix of contractors,
engineers, and solar industry professionals.  If you need to know more
about designing commercially scaled pv, I recommend this as a very good
way to spend three days in San Francisco." - Ted Horton, NorCalPV, Aug 2007

"Very
engaging instructors.  Highly attentive to all of the students yet felt
like I was the only one being addressed."  - Participant 2007

"Great class - well worth my time.  Well presented and balanced.  Thanks so much for the new smarts." - Participant 2007

"Thanks for stepping up to the plate to offer this much needed training."  - Participant 2007
