There is a deep placidity in Luciana Souza’s singing that will not surprise fans of Brazilian music. But Souza brings something more to that great tradition in her art—an emotional clarity and honesty of the sort that gives one goose bumps. She is a marvelous, gripping communicator that restores one’s faith in the power of subtlety. Joining Ms. Souza are the ebullient, agile guitarist Romero Lubambo and the wildly inventive percussion guru Cyro Baptista.
