On October 1, 2005, four-year-old Emily Ann Wade was diagnosed with and inoperable brain tumor that would take a miracle to overcome. Emily was sent to North Carolina’s Children’s Hospital at UNC to undergo chemotherapy and radiation to try and save her life. During this time, the Wade family spent 11 weeks of her 10 month battle at the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. The “House” was not just a place where they could get some needed sleep, but a HOME where they were loved, supported, hugged, laughed with, cried with, prayed for (lots of prayers) and knew friends were waiting to help when needed. After Emily’s untimely death, the family wished to preserve the bond that they had created with the “House” and possibly repay a fraction of what they had received. Hence, the “Play for Emily” golf tournament was fostered.
